Scientific conference Atom for Local Government
On November 23rd, 2023, the Atom for Local Government conference will be held in Katowice - Nuclear energy as an opportunity for the energy transformation of Silesia and Zagłębie. The event will be attended by dr hab. Eng. Łukasz Bartela, prof. SUT.
The organizer of the conference is the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis. Similarly to last year, representatives of government administration, local governments, industry and science responded to the invitation. Experts who will come to the Silesian Museum in Katowice will discuss in four panels, the topics of which will refer to the challenges and opportunities accompanying the energy transformation of Silesia and Zagłębie.
At the conference, the Silesian University of Technology will be represented by dr hab. Eng. Łukasz Bartela, prof. SUT, who also serves as the DEsire project manager. The aim of the project is to develop a plan for the decarbonization of the domestic professional energy sector using nuclear reactors and to pilot the Energy Transformation Cluster, which is to be carried out within the structure of our university.

At the conference, dr hab. Eng. Łukasz Bartela, prof. SUT will deliver an introductory speech to the discussion panel entitled "Energy transformation of Silesia and Zagłębie as an opportunity for local communities", and then he will act as a moderator in this panel. The panel discussion will include:
- Henryk Borczyk, Vice-Chairman of the Management Board of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis,
- Patryk Demski, Vice-President of the Management Board for Strategy and Development of Tauron Polska Energia,
- Zbigniew Gieleciak, President of the Management Board of the Regional Water and Sewage Management Centre SA in Tychy,
- Tadeusz Królczyk, Mayor of the Ochotnica Dolna commune,
- Konrad Świerczek, Professor of the AGH University of Science and Technology.
Moreover, dr hab. Eng. Łukasz Bartela, prof. SUT will take part in the panel entitled "Nuclear energy tailored to local needs." The panel will include the following participants:
- Marcin Bazylak, Mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza,
- Paweł Gajda, Assistant Professor, AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Scientific Director of Nuclear.pl,
- Dawid Piekarz, Energy Transformation Expert, Orlen Synthos Green Energy,
- Urszula Kuczyńska, Expert at the Sobieski Institute.
The introductory speech to the panel will be delivered by prof. Wacław Gudowski, Professor at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and the National Centre for Nuclear Research, nuclear energy advisor at Orlen Synthos Green Energy.
