Science is a woman! The debate at Kato Science Corner

On the occasion of Women’s Day there will take place a special event. On March 9th, in Kato Science Corner, scientists from the European City of Science universities will meet with the inhabitants of the region to discuss challenges and inspire each other.

The event titled “Science is a woman,” will be held from 10.00 to 12.00.

It will be a debate with outstanding scientists from the Silesian Voivodeship on the contemporary understanding of success and challenges faced by women implementing their own ambitious projects. During the debate, topics related to the activity of Silesian scientists on the international arena will also be discussed.

The debate will be attended by the Rector of the University of Economics, prof Celina Olszak, director of the Science Popularization Centre of the Silesian University of Technology - dr hab. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, prof. SUT and representing the University of Silesia - dr hab. Anna Manowska, prof. UŚ

The debate will last an hour, after it - the participants will listen to three presentations prepared by speakers associated with European City of Science universities.

The researchers will present in an interesting way the issues they deal with on a daily basis, and which will interest the participants of the event. The topics of healthy eating, women’s mental health and a balanced approach to fashion will be discussed.

In the program there will also be the presentations: "Diet as a woman" (dr health sciences. Katarzyna Brukało - Silesian Medical University), "Femininity is still taboo" (dr med. sciences Beata Wróbel) and "Can fashion be eco-friendly?" (Monika Kłak).

The event is coordinated by Red. Katarzyna Siwczyk associated with the Centre for Promotion and Communication of the Silesian University of Technology and a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the University of Silesia.

The event is implemented in the City-Region-Academy band as part of the celebrations of the European City of Science Katowice 2024.
