Results of the project with the participation of the Silesian University of Technology have been accepted by the Ministry of Infrastructure

The results of the project “Analysis of the scale of transportation exclusion in Poland together with recommendations of legislative changes in the context of public transport” were accepted by the Ministry of Infrastructure. The project worth PLN 4 million was implemented in the years 2021-2025 by a consortium of four technical universities: Poznań, Gdańsk, Silesia and Warsaw. The report is the first comprehensive and detailed study of the scale of the phenomenon of  transportation exclusion in Poland.

The aim of the project was to gather the necessary knowledge about the functioning of public  transport on a national scale, to develop a definition of  transportation exclusion (WK), to develop and use a tool to assess the occurrence of the  transportation exclusion phenomenon. The planned effects include recommendations on counteracting the transportation exclusion including in the field of legislation.

The report prepared by a team of experts led by Dr Hab. Eng. Piotr Sawicki, Prof. of Poznan University of Technology is the first comprehensive analysis of the problem of transport accessibility in the country and an important source of data for government administration and local governments. The study shows that over 10 million people in Poland (27% of the population) are excluded from transportation solutions.

The project received funding under the Strategic Research and Development Program “Social and Economic Development of Poland in the conditions of Globalizing Markets” GOSPOSTRATEG. Its manager at our University was the Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering Dr Hab. Eng. Grzegorz Sierpiński, Prof. SUT from the Department of Transport Systems, Traffic Engineering and Logistics.
