Results of the 1st Photo Contest "Corrosion around us"
As part of the International Corrosion Awareness Day, our Corrosion Research Laboratory organized a photo competition "Corrosion around us". There were 70 submissions of photos revealing the phenomenon of corrosion.
The jury selected the winner and additionally awarded 10 honourable mentions for high quality and the ability to inspire thinking that will contribute to positive changes in the way of perceiving and combating corrosion.
The best photo will be published in the issue of the trade magazine "Protection against Corrosion" and will receive a set of prizes for the best photo. In addition, the winner will receive a voucher entitling him to enter the Silesian Planetarium.
All authors of the awarded works will also be awarded with small gifts.
The winning photo belongs to Marek Bekier "Maro", the photo was taken in Park Hestia in Sopot. It shows a corten steel sculpture by Matěj Frank
Awards:
- Wioletta Cebulska, description of the uploaded photo: Users and car enthusiasts struggle with the problem of corrosion. Often the result of corrosion is the withdrawal of the vehicle from use or very expensive repairs, especially in the case of vintage cars.
- Sabina Brzozowska "Inka" description of the uploaded photo: “Lonely Garden" - shows a rusted fence that belonged to a deceased neighbour. Previously, he had always lovingly tended to the garden, but after his death it remains in a neglected state.
- Adrianna Wierzbicka description of the uploaded photo: Image of the area of the old steelworks in Dolní Witkowice in Ostrava
- Alexandra Bach; description of the uploaded photo: “Nature versus steel" - fragment of the bridge railing. The advanced corrosion process has caused significant damage, making the railing unsafe to use without costly repair.
- Muhammad Zain Azeem description of the uploaded photo: “Corrosion, let's go!" - uniform corrosion of the passenger car and rail tank car caused by damage to the coating.
- Magdalena Sucharowska description of the uploaded photo: Tram at the terminus in Ruda Śląska - Chebzie
- Małgorzata Szymaszek "Ambassador" description of the uploaded photo: “Doors from another world" - in the abandoned Santa Laura saltpetre mining and processing plant in the Atacama Desert in Chile. It stopped working at the end of World War I
- Sandra Picchlak-Czop description of the uploaded photo: “Rust in the landscape and detail - Metallurgical furnace in Ruda Śląska" - an object covered with multi-coloured rust forming in the form of various patterns and creating its character.
- Rafał Kryst description of the uploaded photo: “Facing doom" - the photo was taken in Chernobyl in 2019, and in the background, you can see the distinctive "Moscow Eye" radar.
- Aleksandra Mikulíková;
description of the uploaded photo: “Artistic corrosion" - a corroded metal sculpture by Čestmír Sušky harmonizes with the Miura Hotel in Čeladná, Czech Republic, visible in the background.
