Researchers’ Night in the European City of Science 2024

An exciting popular science event is ahead of us. Book your free day today for October 12th, 2024. Six Silesian universities will open the doors to laboratories during the Researchers’ Night in the European City of Science 2024.

This year’s edition of the Researchers’ Night under the slogan “The Power of Silesian Researchers!” is implemented in the City-Region-Academy band as part of the celebrations of the European City of Science Katowice 2024. We are not limited to Katowice only, because we want to show you the diversity of Silesian science.

Therefore, on October 12th, 2024, we invite you to 6 Silesian universities, belonging to the Academic Consortium EMNK 2024: Silesian University of Technology, Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music, Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education Medical University of Silesia, University of Economics in Katowice, and University of Silesia. Thus, we are expanding the scope of the Researchers’ Night and organizing activities in the cities of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis: Gliwice, Zabrze, Katowice, Chorzów, Sosnowiec and Bytom, as well as beyond: in Rybnik and Cieszyn.

The inauguration ceremony will take place at 17:00 at the Centre of New Technologies of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice.

What awaits the participants of the event? Over three hundred activities: presentations, stands, lectures and workshops conducted by 700 scientists from Silesian universities.

This year we focus on the interdisciplinary dimension of science, which brings together researchers from many fields in joint activities. We will talk about how engineers are changing the face of medicine, why AI is needed not only by programmers, whether games will change the future of education, why intelligent materials can affect the way we travel.

The power of science is also changing our region. This is a challenge, but our scientists see a huge potential to help transform the region. Part of the activities are devoted to Silesia, and they will concern both environmental protection and modern technologies in industry and transport, as well as architecture, language, and tradition.

Scientific concerts, exhibitions, film screenings and workshops designed for the youngest children or lectures only for adults will be additional attractions...
