Rector's hours
In connection with the ceremony of awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Victor R. Ambros, His Magnificence Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Marek Pawełczyk establishes the rector’s hours.
They will be in force on the 6th of May 2025 from 8.00 to 13.00.
Awarding the title of Doctor Honoris Cause to Prof. Victor R. Ambros is an important event for our University, which is why the authorities of the Silesian University of Technology want to allow members of our academic community to take part in this ceremony.
Prof. Victor R. Ambros, an American molecular biologist, is recognized as one of the most outstanding researchers in the field of gene regulation and molecular biology. His groundbreaking discoveries of microRNA (miRNA) have changed the way we understand the mechanisms of regulation of gene expression, which has had a significant impact on biology, genetics, and medicine.
In 2024, Victor R. Ambros was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Gary Ruvkun for his pioneering research on microRNAs and their role in the development of organisms and gene regulation.
The DHC award ceremony will take place on the 6th of May 2025 at 10.00 in the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.
A day earlier, on the 5th of May from 10.15, a scientific seminar entitled “Silesian University of Technology for Medicine” will take place in the Lecture Hall of the Biotechnology Centre of the Silesian University of Technology with the participation of the Nobel Prize winner.

Also on the 5th of May, at 15.30 p.m., an open meeting of Prof. Victor R. Ambros with the university community and the local community will take place. The meeting will be held at the Student Culture Centre “Mrowisko.” Admission to this event free. It will be a great opportunity to listen to a world-famous scientist and make personal contacts.
