Rector Marek Pawełczyk at the conference “Foreign students in Poland 2026”
The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk takes part in the 19th conference “Foreign students in Poland 2026”, which is held in Krakow on the 29th -30th of January. This year’s event on the strategy of internationalization of higher education in Poland is organized under the slogan “Internationalization in the face of new challenges.”
The conference is part of the “Study in Poland” program run jointly by the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland and the “Perspektywy” Educational Foundation. The host of this year’s edition is the Jagiellonian University. The event, which is sponsored by the Minister of Science and Higher Education Marcin Kulasek, is attended by nearly 100 Polish academic universities and institutions. The effect of previous editions is a better perception of Polish higher education abroad and an increase in the number of foreigners studying in Poland.
Of the conference was attended by Rector Marek Pawełczyk, who is the Chairman of the CRASP International Cooperation Committee. On the 30th of January, the Rector of our University had the pleasure of conducting a plenary session entitled “Direction BRUSSELS – How to open a safe for European funds for research and development” with the participation of, among others, the Director of the National Centre for Research and Development Prof. Jerzy Małachowski, Rector of the University of Warsaw Prof. Alojzy Nowak and Director of the NCBR Office in Brussels Waldemar Dubaniowski. The discussion focused on the questions of what actions are necessary for Polish universities and scientific institutes to take a satisfactory place in international research projects and be able to build strong European consortia with Polish participation, which is the best guarantee of effective recourse to funds in the new financial perspective.
In addition, on January 29th, a gala of the Interstudent 2026 competition took place, in which eight foreign students studying in Poland were awarded. The winners act as ambassadors of Polish universities and the country around the world. Rector Marek Pawełczyk was the chairman of the competition Awards Committee.
The participants of the conference “Foreign students in Poland 2026” in numerous panels discuss, among others, the economic, social, and educational effects of internationalization, as well as how to improve scientific and academic cooperation. The event is also attended by the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation Prof. Dr. Hab. Eng. Sebastian Werle and representatives of our University.
