Raw materials of the future - lecture as part of the Silesia Week at the Silesian University of Technology

On June 24th , the Silesian University of Technology will host a lecture by Dr Eng. Jacek Nowak entitled “Raw materials of the future. Without them, there would be no new technologies." The event is organized as part of the Silesia Week, during the celebration of the European City of Science Katowice 2024.

In the era of dynamic technological development, raw materials such as rare earth metals (REE), copper and various metal ores play a key role in shaping our future. During the meeting, we will discuss what challenges and opportunities we face in the context of increasing consumption of both renewable and non-renewable raw materials. Will we find out whether the era of hard coal, identified with Silesia, is actually ending? Is hard coal still a key element of the global energy economy? The lecture will allow you to understand why coal remains an important energy raw material, what innovations allow for its more effective and ecological use, and how it can coexist with modern technologies.

Our meeting is not only an opportunity to expand knowledge, but also an opportunity to discuss the future of civilization in the context of sustainable development. We will consider together how to manage resources to ensure stable development and what are the prospects for future generations in the face of challenges related to the consumption of natural resources.

The lecture will be held at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology on June 24th , 2024, at 12.15 p.m.
