The "GRanD" project at the Silesian University of Technology - support for doctoral students in transition to a green and digital economy

The Silesian University of Technology, as a Research University with an established position in the national system of higher education, implements a range of activities supporting the development of young scientists. One of the key initiatives in this area is the "GRanD" project (GReen and Digital - Comprehensive support for the development of the Joint Doctoral School and the scientific activity of doctoral students addressing the needs of the green and digital economy), which aligns with the strategy of transformation of science and economy towards sustainable development and digitalisation.

The project is implemented from 1 October 2024 to 30 June 2026, and is financed by the Just Transition Fund (FST) for the Silesian Voivodeship – instruments supporting the fair transformation of mining regions in Poland. The financing institution is the Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodeship.

The aim of the "GRanD" project is to enhance the comfort and efficiency of cientific research conducted by doctoral students of the Joint Doctoral School of the Silesian University of Technology, with particular emphasis on research aligned with the priorities of green and digital transformation. The project addresses the increasing needs of the academic community for an interdisciplinary approach to climate, energy, and technological challenges.

The project provides comprehensive financial and substantive support, including

the following:

• financing the costs of materials for conducting research,

• co-financing the costs of publication in prestigious scientific journals,

• support for participation in national and international scientific conferences,

• financing research internships in domestic and foreign centers,

• financing training to improve competences in the field of green and digital technologies.

The condition for participation in the project is the declaration of the use of acquired "green" and/or "digital" competences in current or future scientific activities, which is an important element of building a modern researcher profile responding to the challenges of the 21st century.

The "GRanD" project not only supports the individual scientific development of doctoral students, but also fits into the wider context of the transformation of the Upper Silesia region – an area with strong industrial traditions, which is currently redefining its identity towards innovation, sustainable development and digitization, in which the Silesian University of Technology plays a significant role.

The Silesian University of Technology encourages doctoral students to actively participate in the project, which is a real opportunity to develop a scientific career in accordance with current research trends and the needs of the European labor market.
