Prof. Ryszard Wilk has died

We regret to inform you that on September 26 this year, prof. Ryszard Wilk - a long-time researcher at the Silesian University of Technology, former Dean of the Faculty of Environmental and Energy Engineering, former Vice-Rector for Didactics and honorary professor of the Silesian University of Technology.

The professor was a specialist in fuels, combustion techniques and environmental engineering.

Prof. Ryszard Wilk was born on March 4, 1946 in Prudnik. He began his studies in 1964 at the Faculty of Power Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology and from that time he was associated with our University, where he went through all career levels.

In 1996-2002 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental and Power Engineering. From 2002 to 2008, prof. Wilk was the Vice-Rector for Didactics at the Silesian University of Technology. In addition, in the years 1993-2013 he was the head of the Department of Combustion, Combustion Engines and Renewable Energy Sources at the Institute of Thermal Technology.

Prof. Ryszard Wilk gave lectures on thermodynamics, basics of thermal technology, combustion techniques, fuel gasification and low-emission combustion. In his research and development activities, he was involved in research in the field of fuel technology, combustion techniques, burners, low-emission combustion, environmental engineering and heating issues. He conducted basic research and also performed a number of works for the benefit of the economy.

Recently, some of the main achievements of prof. Wilk was to develop the theory of low-emission combustion and research on combustion technology with very high air heating.

Prof. dr hab. Eng. Ryszard Wilk holds the Gold and Bronze Cross of Merit, was awarded the Medal of the National Education Commission and holds the distinction of Merit for the Silesian University of Technology. He was also an Honorary Professor of the Silesian University of Technology.
