Prof. Marek Pawełczyk: Personality of European Universities

Vice-Rector for Science and Development prof. Marek Pawełczyk became a laureate of the "European Universities - Alliances of the Future" competition in the “Personality” category. The competition accompanying the 1st Conference of European Universities was organized by the National Agency of the Erasmus+ Program and the European Solidarity Corps.

The event was aimed at selecting the most inspiring and active Polish universities operating within alliances of universities and promoting the initiative and importance of European Universities for the Polish and European economy. The nominees are distinguished people and universities.

The jury of the competition awarded prizes in five categories: Personality, Innovation, Cooperation with the socio-economic environment, Erasmus+ Excellence and Support for Ukraine.

Prof. Marek Pawełczyk received an award in the “Personality” category. – European Universities are a new quality. Thanks to them, we can accumulate potential and use the well-known synergy effect. It should be emphasized that Poland still has to do a lot of work to make our universities more recognizable. Europe too must catch up with the world. American or Asian universities are often more valued. That is why the initiative of European Universities was born and it seems that in the next few years it will bring results - said the vice-rector.

The Silesian University of Technology is one of the partners of the EURECA-PRO (European University Alliance on Responsible Consumption and Production) consortium, established with 8 European universities. The consortium enables students and employees to educate and conduct research in the field of responsible consumption and production.

– European Universities, like in a lens, focus all these things and the entire offer that occurs in the Erasmus + program. As part of these alliances, we have cooperation in the didactic field, sharing the didactic offer, striving for joint diplomas, not only double, but also multilateral. We also have scientific cooperation. All this certainly helps Polish universities to gain better visibility on the international arena, and this, in turn, should translate into better positioning of Polish universities in the rankings - said dr hab. Paweł Poszytek, director of the National Agency for the Erasmus+ Program and the European Solidarity Corps.

The award ceremony in the "European Universities - Alliances of the Future" competition was preceded by the 1st Conference of European Universities. This is a new initiative dedicated to alliances of higher education institutions from across the European Union, implemented under the Erasmus+ programme. The aim of the event is to exchange experiences, undertake joint initiatives leading to the development of long-term, structural, sustainable and systemic cooperation in the field of education, research and innovation throughout Europe. The conference was attended by rectors of universities that belong to consortia of European Universities, as well as representatives of academic circles interested in the initiative of internationalization of universities.
