Vice-Rector for Science and Development prof. Marek Pawełczyk became a member of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice.
The new authorities of the Branch for the 2023-2026 term were elected in a secret ballot during the 119th session of the General Assembly of the members of the Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice, which took place on November 28th , 2022. Prof. Andrzej Wiecek was again elected the President of the Branch. Prof. Marek Pawełczyk was elected a member of the Presidium.
The branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice was established in 1974. It covers the Śląskie and Opolskie Voivodeships.
The special activity of the Branch is the inspiration and coordination of scientific work in the region. It is carried out by scientific committees, in which numerous employees of the Silesian University of Technology participate. The activity of the committees allows the Branch to maintain close and deep contacts with the scientific community of the region and the socio-economic environment. The basic forms of the committees’ activity are scientific meetings and conferences, which are a platform for exchanging views, experiences and discussions.
Professor Marek Pawełczyk has been heading the Metrology Committee for several years, and on December 2nd he was re-elected as its chairman. From January 1st 2022, prof. Pawełczyk is a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
