Prof. Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun with the Stars of Internationalization award

Dr Hab. Eng. Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun, Prof. of the Silesian University of Technology, received the prestigious “Star of Internationalization” award in the category: “Research Star 2025”. The scientist received the statuette during a gala held in Gdańsk as part of the conference “Foreign students in Poland 2025” organized by the Perspektywy Educational Foundation in cooperation with CRASP.

The mission of the Star of Internationalization award, which has been awarded this year for the eighth time, is to select, award and promote people who have outstanding achievements in the internationalization of Polish universities. The award is granted by an Awards Committee consisting of representatives of all Polish institutions and organizations involved in the development of internationalization. The work of the Awards Committee is led by Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska, President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland, Rector of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.

Dr Hab. Eng. Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun, Prof. of Silesian University of Technology received the Internationalization Star Award in the Research Star 2025 category. This distinction is awarded to scientists distinguished by internationally recognized research and realized in international teams, which creates the prestige of our science in the world.

Prof. Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun spent 11 years abroad. She defended her PhD in the Netherlands, later lived in Germany, and returned to Poland three years ago as part of the “Polish Returns” program of the National Agency for Academic Exchange. During her research stay abroad she has hosted Polish students or PhD students on scientific internships many times. In March 2021 she started working at the Silesian University of Technology. She is currently employed at the Biotechnology Centre and at the same time as Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

At the Biotechnology Centre, she created a research group Biofabrication and Bio-instructional Materials, which deals with modern 3D bioprinting technology for applications in regenerative medicine. It has an international character (in total, two PhD students from India, a PhD student from Poland, a PhD student visiting from Iran for 6 months, an assistant professor from Poland, an assistant professor from Turkey, and also a second assistant professor from Turkey as part of his own Turkish grant for a year) and enjoys great interest among young scientists from abroad. It cooperates with the group of Prof. Gelinsky from the University of Dresden – one of the best specialized 3D bioprinting teams in the world.
