Prof. Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun from the Silesian University of Technology has been awarded the Jean Leray Award 2026 by the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) for her outstanding scientific contribution to the field of biomaterials.

The award, presented annually at the ESB conference, recognizes early-stage researchers who make a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge in biomaterials through basic, experimental, and/or clinical research.

Prof. Włodarczyk-Biegun was recognized for her scientific activities related to bio fabrication, bio-instructional materials, and dynamic biomaterials – areas that are used, among others, in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

Prof. Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun leads the Bio fabrication and Bio-instructive Materials group at the Biotechnology Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. Her team conducts interdisciplinary research on the design of advanced biomaterials and the use of bio fabrication techniques to create tissue models and new solutions for regenerative medicine.

The award is also a recognition for the work of the scientific team and collaborators whose contribution to the development of the conducted research Prof. Włodarczyk-Biegun emphasizes in her statement after receiving the award.
