POP Science Award for Prof. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, and Marcelina Jureczko, PhD
We have met the winners of the POP Science competition of the Silesian Science Festival in Katowice. Prof. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska and Marcelina Jureczko, PhD. are among the awarded.
Director of the Science Popularisation Centre, prof. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska was awarded in the category "Think globally, act locally - university employee", while Marcelina Jureczko, PhD, from the Department of Environmental Biotechnology at the Silesian University of Technology, was awarded in the category "Think globally, act locally - an inhabitant of the Silesian Voivodeship".
The award ceremony took place on 10th of October in Katowice. “I am very pleased that my efforts to popularise science have been appreciated, not only in my field (microbiology and biotechnology), but also in trying to reach wider audience with science, often in an unusual form, allowing the popularisation of science in other disciplines. In addition to the popularisation of science, I am also active in the field of educating scientists in science communication. This area of my work gives me pleasure, because I can share my practical experience in this field and encourage to talk about science in layman’s terms to a wider audience - says prof. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska.
The POP Science award was also given to Marcelina Jureczko, PhD from the Department of Environmental Biotechnology of the Silesian University of Technology
“The POP Science award gives me a sense of appreciation for my work and is a great motivator for further activities. This distinction is particularly important to me, as the award in the "think globally, act locally - university employee" category was received by my master, prof. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, who inspired me with her science popularisation passion. The POP Science award was presented for the second time. It is one of three prizes awarded as part of the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE. Congratulations to all winners!
