Outstanding students in the Mentorship Program “Rozwiń Skrzydła” (Spread your Wings) at the Silesian University of Technology
The Silesian University of Technology has once again inaugurated the Mentorship Program “Spread your Wings,” which since the academic year 2019/2020 supports outstanding pupils of Academic Secondary Comprehensive Schools in developing their interests related to technical sciences. The aim of the program is to develop young people intellectually.
As part of the program, each participant will receive a mentor – a university employee who will help them in achieving their goals and thus support the pupil’s development.
“I once ran a mentoring program myself and I know what an opportunity it is for young people. The help from the mentor gives them the opportunity to participate in such initiatives, in which they would not be able to take advantage outside the program – said the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk. “I have seen collaborations where mentors invited prominent scientists to meetings, gave them the opportunity to participate in research or scientific delegations, and this allowed them to build a better path of development and future career,” added the Rector.
The opportunity that the program participants received is not only support from the mentor, but also additional language classes, training in the field of soft skills development and personal development, an individual career counselling and coaching program, participation in nationwide and international expert lectures, conferences, discussion panels, participation in scientific research, paid research and development internships and foreign trips to the partner university of the Silesian University of Technology.
In the sixth edition of the Mentorship Program, eight outstanding secondary school pupils will take advantage of this opportunity.

- These are outstanding pupils who have already demonstrated achievements in the field of technical sciences. This is a great opportunity for them, which is also confirmed by talks with former participants of this program – confirmed the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok.
Among the winners was Jakub Gebel, a pupil of the Rybnik Academic Secondary Comprehensive School.
- I hope that thanks to the cooperation with the mentor I will be able to expand my knowledge in the field of programming. I would like to be able to acquire knowledge at the student level – said Jakub.

Mentors do not hide that cooperation with pupils is a challenge for them, but at the same time satisfaction with the later results of work.
- Next year I will have the opportunity to work with Dominik, a pupil of ALO (Academic Secondary Comprehensive School) who is already involved in PBL projects together with students. Thanks to the program, he could also be involved in research on catalytic codes – said Dr Eng. Dawid Lisicki.
Therefore, there are broad perspectives for the participants of the program. We wish you all success.
The coordinator of the program is the Studies Service Centre.
