Opening of the Student Creativity Centre

The Student Creativity Centre in Gliwice has started its activity. SCC (Student Creativity Centre), together with the Innovation and Creativity space in Katowice, make the Student Activity Centre at the Silesian University of Technology.

The establishment of the Student Creativity Centre is one of the most important tasks carried out within the framework of the Excellence Initiative of the Research University. Its aim is to create a space in which it will be possible to create and develop the competences of the future among students, doctoral students, and employees.

- In the coming days, we will have a wide consultation. The facility will be open to students and project groups, so as to match the functionality of this facility to the needs of its future users as much as possible,-  said Professor Arkadiusz Mężyk, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology.

The Student Creativity Centre is located in the building of former stables on Akademicka Street. – It is a place for individual and group work. Students will be able to implement PBL (Project Based Learning) projects here. Consultations, meetings, debates, and seminars will also take place here. The centre will also be open to pupils of secondary schools – said Dr Eng. Aneta Grodzicka, Director of the Student Creativity Centre.

Until now, there was no space at the University where many scientific clubs could work in one place. – The clubs functioned mainly in their departments and there was no space for joint project activities. So, I hope that the Centre will help students develop their creativity – said Grzegorz Król from the Student Self-Government.

We are glad that the University provides us with a place where we will be able not only to work, but also to get to know each other, to integrate. This is an opportunity for new solutions and joint projects – added Julia Nowak from the AI-METH Student Scientific Club. In turn, Jonas Michalik from Silesian Aerospace Technologies emphasizes that modern spaces will be a good place to meet business. – We will be able to invite business partners to the Student Creativity Centre and organize presentations or meetings in modern conference rooms – said the student.

In the Student Creativity Centre, students will have places for individual and group work. In conference rooms, they will be able to present their projects to investors or show them at the exhibition. In addition to the working spaces, the building has an exhibition space and a cinema room.

This is another place where students can develop their interests and pursue projects. Since last year, the Innovation and Creativity Space has been operating in Katowice at Krasińskiego Street. It is a huge hall equipped with the latest technologies, providing students with access to unique equipment and the opportunity to implement their own engineering projects.

The equipment of the hall includes, among others, a modern numerically controlled plasma burner, a CNC lathe and electric drill, a system for 3D scanning and printing, a set of furnaces for heat treatment, melting and casting even up to a temperature of 2200 o C. In addition, students have a full set of power tools, presses and a chamber for painting and sandblasting.
