Open Day of the Silesian University of Technology - in Rybnik
After meetings with young people in Gliwice, Katowice and Zabrze, it was Rybnik's turn - the Continuing Education Centre - a branch of the Silesian University of Technology hosted students of secondary schools as part of the Open Days. This year's secondary school graduates learned about the educational offer at all faculties of the Silesian University of Technology, and above all, they could meet and talk to lecturers and students.
The numerous students of technical and comprehensive schools from the region gathered in the auditorium were welcomed by the director of the Continuing Education Centre, dr hab. Zygmunt Łukaszczyk, prof. SUT – The Silesian University of Technology, as a source of human resources for entrepreneurs and many public institutions, has been a permanent part of the history of the Rybnik Coal District for over 60 years, which today is transforming before our eyes into the Rybnik Hydrogen District – said director Łukaszczyk. – Over the years, the Silesian University of Technology has proven that it is a city-forming, prestigious and friendly university that focuses on people and development. Aware that the fate of the world lies in the hands of all of us, we act today with tomorrow in mind, he added.

With the future of the region in mind, after the break, the Silesian University of Technology launched full-time on-site classes for students in Rybnik. The Continuing Education Centre has been offering courses in logistics since October.
– Young people showed particularly great interest in the field of logistics with a specialization in urban logistics, for understandable reasons, because it is an extremely modern field of study that will provide graduates with a well-paid and interesting job, because the demand for specialists in this area is very high - emphasized prof. dr Eng. Jarosław Brodny, deputy director of the College of Studies of the Silesian University of Technology, who presented the university's educational offer to the participants of the Open Days. – Pupils got to know the offer of all faculties of the Silesian University of Technology, we have great students from the Rybnik region and many candidates for studies from this area, there is a great interest in technical sciences here.

There were many attractions for the pupils - they listened to a lecture by dr Eng. Maciej Sajkowski, prof. SUT titled "Modern tools for engineers and scientists", they could visit the stands of faculties, student research groups and local governments and take part in thematic workshops. – We have prepared workshops on artificial intelligence and new technologies. Secondary school graduates could play Escape Room with Chat GPT, fly educational drones, listen to Internet of Things technology and Arduino programming, take part in Design Thinking workshops and play educational board games - said dr Eng. Aldona Rosner, head of the Office of Education and Popularization of Science at the Continuing Education Centre - a branch of the Silesian University of Technology.
The meeting in Rybnik closed the November series of Open Days at the Silesian University of Technology. We would like to thank everyone for their commitment and the participants for their large attendance - we estimate that a total of over 3,000 students visited our walls.
