Open Day at the Silesian University of Technology

Over two thousand secondary school pupils took part in the Open Day of the Silesian University of Technology. This event was an opportunity to get to know the university, the educational offer and talk to scientists and students.

Chemical experiments, a chess robot show, a welding simulator, or an electric motorcycle - such attractions awaited secondary school pupils who visited the Silesian University of Technology during the Open Day. In addition to shows and workshops, young people also got to know the educational offer of the university, they could visit faculties and laboratories.

The young people who came to the Education and Congress Centre were welcomed on behalf of the Rector by prof. Bogusław Łazarz, Vice-Rector for General Affairs.

- During the Open Day, we want to introduce you to the University, tell you who we are and why it is worth studying here. The Silesian University of Technology is the winner of the " Excellence Initiative - Research University" competition and we will also show you this excellence in scientific research. The Silesian University of Technology is a university that educates successful people - said the Vice-Rector.

During the event, numerous young people got to know the educational offer of the University, which was presented by dr hab. Eng. Jarosław Brodny, prof. of SUT.

– We are a large research and development centre that conducts research at a very high level. This translates into didactic activity, because a good researcher shares their results with students. Our advantage is also the timeliness of the subject and forecasting the labour market. The students visiting us today will be graduating in 4-5 years, and then the labour market will be completely different than it is today. So we have to anticipate how it will change at the university. Moreover, the Silesian University of Technology is a member of the EURECA-PRO - European University consortium. There are nine universities that work closely together. We also offer international student exchange programs, dual studies, a mentoring system and scholarship programs - said dr hab. Eng. Jarosław Brodny, prof. of SUT.

During the Open Day, pupils and teachers from all over the Silesian Voivodeship visited the Silesian University of Technology. Among them, young people from the School Complex No. 6 in Jastrzębie Zdrój.

Many of our pupils want to continue their education. That is why it is very important to show them different possibilities. The Silesian University of Technology is a well-known university, many of our graduates have chosen to study here, some even stayed as academics. This is the first university that our pupils take into account when planning their further education. Therefore, it is very good that the Open Day was organized, because nothing can replace a personal meeting with another person.  Here, our pupils can get to know not only the offer, but also ask students how they study - said Jolanta Kłopeć, director of the School Complex No. 6 in Jastrzębie Zdrój.

- Events such as Open Days at universities are a great opportunity to test ourselves, find out what we really need and perhaps choose our further path. We can find out what specific universities have to offer and also talk to people who are already studying and see what it looks like in practice - said Otylia Orlińska, a pupil of the 3rd Secondary Comprehensive School in Katowice. - We can also ask about specific matters that interest us and which we will not find on the leaflets - added Arkadiusz Radzikowski, a secondary school graduate from the School Complex No. 6 in Jastrzębie Zdrój.

Those interested also visited the faculties and laboratories at the University, where a number of attractions were prepared.
