Open Day at the Silesian University of Technology
It was an opportunity to learn about the university's offer, visit the faculties and talk to students. An open day was held at the Silesian University of Technology.
Almost a thousand secondary school students interested in studying at our university came to the Education and Congress Centre at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, where the event took place. Faculties, student scientific associations and student self-governments presented their offer.
The candidates were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Professor Bogusław Łazarz, while Professor Jarosław Brodny presented the educational offer.
- We want to show that we are a modern research university. The Silesian University of Technology is a beneficiary of the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme. These are not only benefits for scientists, but also for students, who have access to modern teaching. We can offer them education through participation in modern projects or research carried out by one of our more than 180 student scientific associations. What is important, our university is a centre of the most important personnel in the social and economic environment - said the Vice Rector for General Affairs, Professor Bogusław Łazarz.
There are plenty of reasons to study at the Silesian University of Technology. Students and scientists from all faculties were convincing candidates to choose this university.
- Biomedical engineering is such an interdisciplinary faculty, that it gives wide professional opportunities. We can choose what we want to specialise in, whether it is going to be designing implants and dentures or rather programming medical systems - this is how Klaudia Kopeć, a student of biomedical engineering with a specialisation in informatics and medical equipment, encouraged candidates to study at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering in Zabrze. She pointed out that the University keeps up with the spirit of modern times and adapts the teaching to the market needs. - I recommend studying at this faculty to everyone who wants to be up to date. All new technologies that enter the market immediately appear in our faculty, we learn these new solutions on the spot - adds the student.
The Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering also presented their offer. - Prospective students ask whether they will have a job after graduation and whether companies approach us with their offers. We are impressed by the attitude of today's youth. In previous years, candidates were interested in the conditions of studying, now we can see that the emphasis is on what you can do after graduation - said Łukasz Wierzbicki PhD, from the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering.
According to Jarosław Brodny PhD, DSc; deputy director of the College of Studies at the Silesian University of Technology, the huge turnout today is a good sign for the upcoming recruitment process.
- We are pleased with the large interest. We assumed that it would be local young people, but during our talks, it turned out that we have candidates from all over Poland. We are a research university and young people appreciate that. We remain in touch with universities worldwide and our international cooperation is flourishing. We offer courses that guarantee entry into the labour market. Young people appreciate this because we give them excellent perspectives, said Jarosław Brodny. These words are confirmed by the fact that the Silesian University of Technology is a source of development for future presidents, managers and owners of modern companies.
Students are pleased with their studies at the Silesian University of Technology not only for the rich educational offer but also for the possibility to develop their passions within the self-government, scientific, sports and artistic associations.
Patryk Gołąb, chairman of the Self-government Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, emphasises that there are organisations at the university whose role is not only to communicate with the Faculty Council and the deans but also to organise events for students. An example is the integration of student communities. There are sports and artistic clubs, such as Academic Dance Assemble "Dąbrowiacy".
- You can't live maths all the time. You need to relax, dance and have fun too. It refreshes your head - emphasised the members of the "Dąbrowiacy" dance assemble with a smile on their faces. Dressed in their lavish costumes they attracted the visitors to today's Open Days.
Crowds of students interested in the educational offer of the Silesian University of Technology came to the Open Days. - I would like to study at the Silesian University of Technology because the university represents a high level of education. I am interested in civil engineering because it is our family tradition. My parents studied in this field, therefore I want to continue our family tradition - says Wiktor Łaniewski.
-We came here to get to know the university, the individual faculties and to learn how to study here, adds Jakub Paściak, who would like to study informatics.
During the Open Day, the candidates could not only learn about the educational offer, see interesting demonstrations of physics experiments, but also visit the faculties at our university.
The Silesian University of Technology in the latest recruitment will offer studies at 13 faculties and one institute. Candidates can choose out of about 45 fields of study at full and part-time studies of the first and second cycle.
A novelty next year will be the European University. At the Faculty of Organisation and Management, a new course EURECA PRO Management and Production Engineering will be launched. A graduate of these studies will find it simple to navigate the labour market of all European tycoons.
