On the future of the space industry in Poland

On November 17th, the Upper Silesian Space Scientific Conference GeKKoN was held at the Student Culture Centre "Mrowisko". This event was organized for the third time by students of the Silesian University of Technology.

For several hours, the participants had the opportunity to listen to a presentation and a discussion panel on the future of the space industry in Poland.

- The idea of organizing the event was born during one of the conferences organized by the Polish Space Agency. I dreamed of doing a similar thing at our University, because there are not many of them in our country - says the main coordinator of the conference Radosław Jędrzejczyk, a student of the Silesian University of Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and a member of the Silesian Aerospace Technologies student science club, which was the partner of the event. - We wanted to meet and talk now. I am glad that among the speakers we had representatives of industry. Space enthusiasts appeared at the event. Thanks to recent events, there are more and more of them in Poland and the same is happening at the Silesian University of Technology.

Radosław Grabarek, creator of the popular science channel: “We Need More Space” and Kacper Grzesiak, Commercial Director at ICEYE were among the speakers.

For the second time during GeKKoN, a poster session was also held. Among several works there was, among others, “Endurance Analysis of Martian Geopolymers” prepared by Jakub Szlachta and Lukasz Misztal of SKN Extraterrestrial Civil Engineering. The main goal of their project was to study material samples representing the structural material of the future Mars base in terms of physical and mechanical parameters.
