On December 7th, the Silesian Science Festival Katowice starts. What do you need to know about it?

Annual Science Day – the 8th Silesian Science Festival Katowice will be held on 7th – 9th December at the International Congress Centre. This year’s edition of one of the largest popular science events in Poland and Europe will be the culmination of the whole year of the European City of Science 2024 award ceremony.

Soon the eighth edition of the ŚFN (Silesian Science Festival), which will once again provide you with amazing impressions will start! During the three festival days, you will be able to discover fascinating scientific secrets and gain knowledge in various fields. Participation in the Festival is also a unique opportunity to meet many inspiring personalities from the world of science.

This year’s edition of the Festival will take place at the following hours:

  • December 7th (Saturday): 12:00-18:00.
  • December 8th (Sunday): 10:00-18:00.
  • December 9th (Monday): 8:00-17:00.

On Monday, December 9th, organized groups (mainly pupils and students) will be able to visit the International Congress Centre. On this day, we also invite people participating in 8the edition of the Festival to individually visit the Festival, especially in the afternoon and then to participate in the festival activities with greater freedom.

New in the 8th edition of Silesian Science Festival.

We would like to remind you that the festival is free of charge and available to all interested! We have prepared for you nearly 1000 scientific activities, thanks to which we will be able to explore various fields of science together. Tin the program of the 8th Silesian Science Festival Katowice includes lectures, workshops, shows and other interesting events. You can’t miss it!

This year’s novelty in the Festival’s program will be primarily activities related to European City of Science Katowice 2024 celebrations. The Festival space will be organized as a real City of Science, divided into districts, market and boulevards. What is more, it will be enriched by unique special zones – the Gaming Zonethe AI Zone, the Space Zone and the Water-Earth-Air-Human Zone, as well as the Literary Café (co-organized with three literary festivals: Aglo Festival, the Space of the Word Festival and the J. Pilch Granatowe Góry Word Festival and outstanding stages – Fulbright Stage and Silesian Hall of Fame Stage.

We are also waiting for a speech by the Nobel Prize winner in physics – prof J. Georg Bednorz and events summarizing the celebrations of the European City of Science Katowice 2024, including the Evening of the City of Science (Saturday 7 December, 19.00), activities on the EMNK 2024 stage (December 8) and the idea Market of the City of Science , Best of 50 weeks – selection of the most interesting activities from all weeks  to be repeated at the Festival, as well as signing of the Declaration of the City of the permanent effects of the EMNK, such as the Inauguration of the Science Program for Silesia, concept of Green Zone and a map of Network Science Centre.

In connection with the upcoming eighth edition of the Festival, we also presented a new visual identity of the Festival and the accompanying slogan: Science. The New Silesian Industry!

Join us at the 8th Silesian Science Festival.

To participate in the 8th  Silesian Science Festival, you should register for the event and download a free entry  ticket (individual or for an organized group), which allows you to participate in most of the festival activities. Separate registrations are made for selected scenes, workshops, and part of lectures due to the need to introduce a limit of places. 

Registration for organized groups includes participation in the Silesian Science Festival on Monday, December 9th – it is on this day that pupils, teachers, and students will have a unique opportunity to participate in hundreds of events popularizing science and art.

With the start of registration, we have made available selected events of the program of the 8th Silesian Science Festival. We will announce the next round of registration for activities covered by the limit soon!

Special event – Science City Evening

On Saturday, December 7th at 19:00 a special event will take place on the main stage of the Festival at the International Congress Centre. In the program of the Science City Evening: 

  • INTRODUCTION “What is the future of the City of Science?”
  • concert of film music performed by orchestra. 

The event is free of charge and covered by a separate registration (for this event, a general admission ticket is not enough). We will inform you about the date and details of the registration soon!

Exceptional personalities from the world of science at the 8th Silesian Science Festival (ŚFN) KATOWICE

As every year, at the Silesian Science Festival Katowice you will meet exceptional special guests from Poland and abroad. Their knowledge and passion will be shared with the visitors, among others, the Nobel Prize winner in physics - Prof. J. Georg Bednorz, Prof. Jerry Coyne, Professor Menno Schilthuizen, Aga Szuścik, Karol Wójcicki, Anna Chrobry, Samuel McKee, Róża Hajkuś, Souvik Mukherjee, Grzegorz Wątroba, Maciej Myśliwiec, Dr Eng. Natalia Wendler, Dr Anna Fogtman, Prof. Antoni Dudek and Dr Milena Ratajczak.
