Numbers Week in the City of Science
The eleventh of all 50 Weeks in the City of Science is the Numbers Week. The event is part of the European City of Science celebrations, which will last throughout 2024.
Numbers have accompanied mankind for thousands of years, and even those who had the greatest problems with mathematics at school cannot escape from them in everyday life. The aim of the week is to show the ubiquity and usefulness of numbers, i.e. to popularize exact sciences by identifying the areas of everyday life in which mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science are used. During the week's events, research and issues currently being investigated by scientists from Silesian universities will be presented.
Younger participants will be primarily targeted at activities that allow them to enjoy the use of exact sciences, i.e. simple mathematical competitions, an IT field mini game, building robots from LEGO bricks with programming elements and chemical shows.
Secondary school pupils will be able to learn more advanced issues regarding the use of databases or the use of 3D printing in aviation and astronautics.
Adults and older people may be interested in, among others: computer image processing classes and lectures on financial issues.
The schedule of the event may be changed.
