“Nuclear” classes and internship programme for the students of Silesian University of Technology
Under the agreement concluded with the Ministry of Industry (Department of Nuclear Energy), Silesian University of Technology starts to carry out tasks related to the development of personnel for nuclear energy sector. This is an opportunity for students of our University, who are invited to participate in the internship program and additional “nuclear” classes in the area of supply chain for nuclear energy sector.
Two tasks will be performed under the programme:
1. Implementation of additional (extra-curricular) classes aimed at “nucleisation” of technical (non-nuclear) directions, i.e. civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and others. As part of this task, interested students can take classes of 30 hours, with 15 hours covering topics required by the Ministry of Industry, such as elements of reactor physics, reactor technologies and operation of nuclear power plants, nuclear fuel cycle or safety and radiation protection in nuclear power plants. This part of the classes is planned for the second half of June and the first half of July this year
The remaining 15 hours of classes will be elective and profiling. These classes are planned for October and November 2025. Participation in the classes will be rewarded with the issuance of micro certificate.
2. Organization of long-term student internships in Polish enterprises – minimum 400 hours, maximum 550 hours. Participation in the internship will be paid a salary of PLN 40 gross per hour.
This task will be aimed at familiarizing young engineers with the practical aspects of the implementation of orders for the nuclear sector by Polish companies. Importantly, each internship will have a flexible formula, i.e. tailored to the specifics of a given enterprise, the trainee’s expectations, as well as the profile of their studies, as well as the trainee’s time possibilities. The implementation of the internships is planned for the period from July to November 2025.
The availability limit is 30, and the final decision on qualification for the internship is taken by the Department of Nuclear Energy at the Ministry of Industry.
The costs of these activities will be covered from the Polish Nuclear Energy Program (PPEJ) from the budget line – “Preparation of the domestic industry.” In the internship part, the program will be open to Polish enterprises of the industrial sector performing works/supplies for the world nuclear energy or aspiring to join such supply chains.
Detailed information is provided by Dr Eng. Tomasz Bury from the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering: tomasz.bury@polsl.pl, which also accepts applications from interested students.
