New and updated pro-quality programs within IDUB regarding scientific research and implementation of projects with secondary school pupils

The pro-quality programs, already known at the University and enjoying great interest, have been updated:
- for support in order to start scientific activity in a new research topic  (Ordinance No. 26/2023 );
- for funding ground-breaking research ( Ordinance No. 24/2023 ).

The most important changes include a new method of substantive assessment of applications.

The competition for support in order to start activity in a new research topic is addressed to young scientists within the meaning of the Law on Higher Education and Science, including doctoral students of the Silesian University of Technology, starting scientific activity in a research topic that is new to them, in particular unrelated to the topic of the master's thesis and doctoral dissertation and not financed from external sources.  The grant is awarded within the agreed budget, up to PLN 12,000 gross. The deadline for submitting applications in the next competition is March 31st  .

The competition for funding breakthrough research concerns research not financed from external sources, posing bold research hypotheses, different from current trends in a given research area, if confirmed, the Silesian University of Technology could become a leader of a new research direction.

The grant is awarded within the agreed budget, up to PLN 35,000 gross. The application deadline is April 15th .

A new pro-quality program has been launched to co-finance basic research carried out in cooperation with a foreign partner, not financed so far from external sources, particularly important for the development of a scientific discipline subject to evaluation of scientific activity at the University, during which an application for financing a research project financed from external sources in national or international programs ( Ordinance No. 25/2023 ).

The grant is awarded within the agreed budget, in the amount depending on the source of funding indicated in the declaration of submitting an application for the implementation of a project financed from external sources:

1) up to PLN 20,000 gross in the case of a declaration of submitting an application for the implementation of a project financed under national programmes;

2) up to PLN 30,000 gross in the case of a declaration of submitting an application for the implementation of a project financed under international programmes;

3) up to PLN 40,000 gross in the case of a declaration of submitting an application for the implementation of a project financed under the Horizon Europe programme.

The condition for participation in the competition is cooperation during the implementation of the grant with at least one partner from abroad indicated in the grant application. The application deadline is March 15th.

A program for financing projects implemented by academic teachers in cooperation with pupils of Academic Secondary Comprehensive Schools for which the Silesian University of Technology is the governing body, as well as pupils of secondary schools that have concluded a cooperation agreement with the Silesian University of Technology ( Ordinance No. 20/2023 ), has also been launched. Teams of pupils consisting of 2 to 3 people are appointed by the directors of the schools invited to the competition. For the supervision of each project, the academic teacher receives one-time pro-quality funding in the form of a salary supplement in the amount equivalent to the salary for 30 hours of overtime classes, taking into account the rates applicable in a given academic year for a given position. Pupils participating in the project gain special opportunities, and members of the awarded teams, if they become students of the Silesian University of Technology, will receive a scholarship in the amount of PLN 700 per month for 10 months in the first year of study.

Detailed issues are regulated by the ordinances mentioned above.
