NCN (National Science Centre) grant for prof. Adam Grajcar for research on the fracture toughness of modern steels
Prof. Adam Grajcar from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology received a grant from the National Science Centre for research on the fracture toughness of modern multi-phase steels. The project will be carried out with a German partner, RWTH Aachen University.
The project "Improving the fracture toughness of medium-manganese steels for forgings operating under static, dynamic and cyclic loads with the use of dispersion retained austenite stabilized by redistribution of elements" will be implemented in the years 2023-2026, and its value is over PLN 1 million. In addition, the German side acquired over 315,000 Euro for this project (financed by the DFG - German Research Foundation).
The project manager is prof. Adam Grajcar, and the project manager from the German side - prof. Ulrich Krupp. The partner is RWTH Aachen University - a German technical university with a high international reputation.
As explained by prof. Grajcar, the goal of his project is to develop advanced Quenching and Partitioning (Q&P) medium-manganese steels that combine high strength, ductility and crack resistance under static, dynamic and fatigue loads, which will be produced using an energy-saving forging process. The implementation of the research project requires comprehensive research, using the latest research techniques and simulation tools used to assess the structural and mechanical properties of modern metal materials.
Grant for research by prof. Adam Grajcar was awarded in the OPUS-LAP 22 competition for research projects with foreign partners. Full list at the link: OPUS 22 + LAP/Weave results for projects involving scientists from Germany (ncn.gov.pl)
