More applicants than places to study at the Silesian University of Technology!

Over 9700 applications in the first round of recruitment for studies at the Silesian University of Technology. This year, the university proposed an innovative approach to the recruitment of students, introducing the so-called guaranteed thresholds. This is the number of points guaranteeing admission to the studies, regardless of the limit of places offered in a given field.

This year’s recruitment shows the growing interest in modern technologies and innovative fields of study, but also the trust of young people in the quality of education at the Silesian University of Technology. This is confirmed by the results of the first recruitment round at our University.

The Silesian University of Technology was the first university in Poland to offer an innovative approach to the recruitment of students this year, introducing the so-called guaranteed thresholds. This is the number of points guaranteeing admission to the studies, regardless of the limit of places offered in a given field. In this way, all those who have reached the guaranteed threshold will start their studies in October in the field of their choice. Due to the number of candidates who achieved the level of guaranteed points, the number of places in certain fields of study will be increased.

After the recruitment fees have been paid, 7171 people finally apply for a place in the first- and second-degree studies. A total of 5729 people registered in the recruitment for full-time studies only (almost four hundred more than in the previous year).

In the first round of the call for the first-cycle studies, the most interest (according to the total number of candidates) can be noted in the field of computer science at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science - 557 paid applications for 320 available places and the field of computer science at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics - 432 applicants for 140 places, as well as architecture - 466 interested for 130 places. In terms of the number of candidates applying for one place, mechatronics enjoys the greatest success, with 5 candidates applying for one place. A novelty in the offer of the Silesian University of Technology is also very popular - the field of engineering technologies in forensics, where 5 candidates are fighting for one place. There are also many interested in the following fields of study: Architecture, geodesy, and cartography, as well as aviation and space engineering – 4 candidates for one place.

In full-time second-cycle studies, the most popular field in terms of both the total number of candidates and the number of candidates for the place is architecture.

On the 18th of July at 12.00 the results of the qualification will be announced and the submission of documents by candidates from the basic list will begin. The second round of recruitment will begin in 25.07.2025. Candidates will still be able to register for studies in the fields where the limit of places has not yet been reached.
