Minister of Education and Science (MEiN) scholarships for outstanding young scientists of the Silesian University of Technology

Four scientists of the Silesian University of Technology received scholarships from the Minister of Education and Science for outstanding young scientists.

They are: Dorota Babilas PhD from the Faculty of Chemistry, Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun PhD from the Centre of Biotechnology, MSc Eng. arch. Agata Gąsowska-Kramarz, a graduate from the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology and Witold Adam Ogierman PhD from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

They received scholarships for outstanding young scientists, awarded by the Minister of Education and Science for their impressive scientific achievements of high prestige and international reach. The winners were selected by experts representing all scientific disciplines. When assessing the applications, the greatest attention was paid to the measurable effects of a young scientist's scientific activity in the form of scientific publications and practical applications of the results of research or development works.

In the field of Architecture and Urban Planning, the scholarship was awarded to Agata Gąsowska-Kramarz MSc Eng. arch. - PhD student of the Joint Doctoral School at the Silesian University of Technology. “My scientific achievements in the form of scientific publications based on my own research, concepts and ideas were appreciated. The works were directly and thematically related to the priority research areas of the Silesian University of Technology” - said Gąsowska-Kramarz MSc Eng. arch.My research work is closely connected to my professional work. I am an active member of the Chamber of Architects and the Chamber of Civil Engineers. Professional work and implemented architectural projects allow me to synergistically combine the role of an architect and constructor with the role of an architect-scientist. The topics discussed include the design of residential and public utility architecture in terms of distinguishing methods of systemic qualification and shaping the space of objects” - she added.

For their achievements, the awarded scientists will receive support in the amount of PLN 5,390 per month for 3 years. However, as they emphasize, the most important thing is appreciation of their work.

“The awarded scholarship is a clear confirmation of recognition my scientific activity, as well as of my substantial contribution to the development of science. It is also a motivation for me” - said Dorota Babilas PhD. “The scholarship is not only a great success, but also an additional motivation to conduct further research in the area of my interests” - added Witold Ogierman PhD. Thanks to the scholarship, Gąsowska-Kramarz MSc Eng. arch. is able to continue her research. In turn, Małgorzata Włodarczyk-Biegun PhD emphasized that the scholarship allows her to take a moment amidst the whirlwind of work and appreciate her own efforts and achievements. “On the other hand, it is a motivation and commitment to continue research and work better, so that the work I do can serve others” - she added.

1719 applications were submitted in this year's edition of the competition for scholarships for outstanding young scientists. They were awarded to 215 young scientists, including 37 doctoral students. The applications were assessed by an advisory team composed of experts from all 47 scientific and artistic disciplines. The Minister of Education and Science will allocate nearly PLN 42 million to finance the awarded scholarships.
