Meeting of the Consultative Board at the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gliwice

The first meeting of the Consultative Board at the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gliwice was held at the Silesian University of Technology. The purpose of the meeting was a discussion on the planned investment concerning the Municipal Hospital No 4 in Gliwice, and a presentation of the initial draft of the programme of EU Funds for the Silesian Voivodeship.

The meeting was attended by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk PhD, DSc; the Mayor of the City of Gliwice, Adam Neumann; Bogdan Traczyk, President of the Upper Silesian Agency for Enterprise and Development; Grzegorz Wszołek, President of EMT-Systems; Adam Zieliński PhD, DSc, Eng. Director of the Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy; Wiktor Pawlik, President of the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Gliwice; and Andrzej Korpak, President of Opel Manufacturing Poland in Gliwice.

During the inauguration, Wiktor Pawlik, President of the Chamber, officially handed over the acts of conferment to the members of the Board. The assembly unanimously elected Wiktor Pawlik as the chairman and Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk as the vice-chairman.

The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology emphasised the benefits resulting from the presence of representatives from various areas of activity in the Board: - The most important fact is that we represent different fields of activity: economy, research and development, local self-governments. Together we can develop the economic environment, implement ideas that are created in research and development centres or universities. We want to make the most of the potential of our region - strong industry, scientific centres with an established and strong position, and above all a multitude of the ideas - he said.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of medical environment: Prof. Jacek Gawryhowski MD; Michał Hawrank MD; Marek Morawski, President of the Management Board of Mostostal Zabrze Gliwice Industrial Construction Company; Przemysław Gliklich, President of the Management Board of Municipal Hospital No 4 in Gliwice; Andrzej Potyka, MD and Dariusz Frankowski, Vice-President of the Management Board of Mostostal Zabrze.

The main topic of discussion was the construction of new hospital premises. The Mayor of Gliwice Adam Neumann presented the project of the new investment and the plans for the implementation. He also pointed out the correctness of the assumption that the hospital, apart from providing basic medical care for the residents of Gliwice and its surroundings, must be a place providing the best possible conditions for the development of innovative trends in patient treatment, as well as enabling scientific research in modern medical technologies.

- The hospital should be ready in the middle of 2024. It will be located at ul. Kujawska, near the DTŚ junction and the motorway intersection. The advantage of the location is the fact that the city is the owner of the land in this location, which gives the possibility of extending the hospital in the future. (...) It will certainly be a modern hospital appropriate for the 21st century - says the Mayor of Gliwice Adam Neumann.

Support for medicine is one of the key objectives of the cooperation and development priorities of the region. The Silesian University of Technology actively participates in these activities. - In October, we will start the Centre of Engineering Support for Medicine and Sport in Zabrze. The Centre will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies in the field of medicine. These will mainly include software and systems related to modern diagnostics and decision-making support in such a difficult and responsible area as health care - indicates the Rector.

The meeting was held on 11 June 2021.
