Meeting of graduates of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology
They graduated from the Silesian University of Technology more than half a century ago, but they keep coming back - a group of graduates of the Faculty of Chemistry met in the walls of the University, which they left with a master's degree in engineering in 1970. They still share a friendship that has survived for years. In the jubilee year of the Silesian University of Technology, they are also celebrating their 55 years since receiving their diploma.
The graduates sat again in the auditorium of the Faculty of Chemistry, where they met with Prof. Anna Chrobok, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education with Dr Eng. Piotr Latos, Vice-Dean for Infrastructure and Organization of the Faculty of Chemistry. They were happy to hear how their university changed over the years.
– “It is an extremely moving moment to greet the graduates of one of the oldest faculties of the Silesian University of Technology, all the more so because in this group I recognized my former dean, Professor Jan Zawadiak and Prof. Krystynę Czaja, former Rector of the University of Opole, with whom I had the pleasure to cooperate in the scientific field” – said Professor Anna Chrobok – “The fact that this group survived means that the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology tied them strongly during their studies, they want to come back here and are proud of the fact that they were students of the Silesian University of Technology.”
Graduates from 55 years ago unanimously emphasize that studying is more than just a science for them, which is why their relationships and friendships have stood the test of time.
– “We contact each other regularly and we meet on regular basis, this is our fourteenth meeting since the end of studies, earlier every few years and recently we meet every year, and in the background there is always our Silesian University of Technology, our Alma Mater “– said Stanisław Rygiel.
– “This University brought us so many different attractions, both positive and negative, we have such beautiful memories that we will never get bored of and may it last as long as possible” – emphasized Andrzej Galant. – “I am a Gliwice resident, so I am constantly observing how the Silesian University of Technology and its campus change, but the youth are the same” – added the graduate.
“We have déjà vu, we look at the surroundings as if it were yesterday. Today’s meeting is extremely emotionally important for me, it is emotional, because we have not met in such a wide group so far in the University building “– said Stanisław Wilk.
A group of graduates usually organized their meetings in the Silesian Beskidy Mountains. In Gliwice, they intended to celebrate the round, 50th anniversary of graduation, but these plans by a pandemic. That is why they waited 5 years and today they celebrate both jubilees: 55th anniversary of the diploma and 80th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology.
– “We are grateful to the university and faculty authorities for having welcomed us so wonderfully “– said Prof. Eng. Krystyna Czaja, a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology, former Rector of the University of Opole. – “A lot of us came - as many as 46 people after 55 years, it is unusual and unheard of among my friends or graduates of other universities, so that after so many years the whole year meets so regularly” – emphasized Prof. Czaja.
We wish our graduates a lot of health and many more successful meetings and returns to the Silesian University of Technology.
