Medals of the Minister of Culture for the artists of the Academic “Remont” Theatre
Grzegorz Kempinsky, director and artistic director, and Maciej Łyczko, a longtime actor of the Academic” Remont” Theatre, received the highest state awards for cultural creators. The ceremonial presentation of the medals took place during the Gala summarizing the project Science and Culture implemented by the team of the Student Culture Centre Mrowisko.
The Rector of the previous two terms, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Arkadiusz Mężyk, applied for these prestigious awards to the Ministry of Culture. This event is unprecedented – no one associated with the Silesian University of Technology has been so highly awarded by the ministry dealing with culture. Grzegorz Kempinsky, who directs professional theatre on the most important stages in Poland and around the world, received the Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture. For several years he has been associated with the Academic “Remont” Theatre and, as he admitted, working with amateur artists gives him great satisfaction.
“I am extremely proud and touched by this distinction, our joint work, the whole team of our theatre, Mrowsko and the university authorities has been noticed and appreciated, for me it is a great pride,” said Grzegorz Kempinsky.
Maciej Łyczko is an actor who has been performing in the academic theatre for 21 years. For his involvement and artistic work, he was awarded the Medal of Merit for Polish Culture.
“What I do for “Remont” Theatre and what we all do in our theatre has been appreciated and I am extremely happy about it, it is worth working and creating for you,” said the award-winning actor.
The awards were presented by a representative of the Ministry of Culture together with the current and former authorities of the Silesian University of Technology.
– “We have two excellent people involved in theatre, which has been operating in our university for over 20 years, our laureates, honoured by the Minister of Culture, deserve special emphasis, this is unheard of at a technical university “– said Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology.
The Gala was also a summary of the Science and Culture project, which included more than 100 events and more than 25 thousand people.
– “We were inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s quote “Explore art, which is science and science, which is art” – said Katarzyna Jankowska, director of the Mrowisko Student Culture Centre, thanking all those involved in the project. “Science and art permeate each other, we will continue our activities, the numbers speak for themselves”.
The evening ended with a concert by Alicja Majewska, who, together with Włodzimierz Korcz and a string quartet, seduced the audience with her voice, intelligent humour, and artistic perfectionism.
