MBA Day at the Silesian University of Technology. The forge of leaders does not stop

Giving out diplomas to MBA graduates at the Silesian University of Technology, the inauguration of a new edition, a conference, a lot of inspiring talks and an unusual atmosphere – the MBA Day, which took place on March the 20th at the Centre for New Technologies, is behind us.

The sixth edition of the MBA studies at the Business School of the Silesian University of Technology has been launched, which for several years has been building a strong position on the domestic market of managerial education. Their hallmark is the combination of high academic standards with intensive cooperation with business and the emphasis on practical preparation for leadership roles in the conditions of dynamic economic change.

MBA at Silesian University of Technology is a program prepared in accordance with the standards of one of the three most prestigious global accreditations – AMBA (Association of Master of Business Administration). The Business School also has a silver validation of the Business Graduates Association, which confirms the quality of education and its compliance with international standards. Graduates receive a diploma from one of ten research universities in Poland and a partner diploma from Nyenrode Business University in the Netherlands, one of the best recognized business universities in Europe.

- We said goodbye to our MBA graduates. These are already 360 great leaders who create transformation not only in Poland, but also in the world. Silesian University of Technology is known for being a forge of company presidents and we can really boast that our graduates, also MBA majors, perform the most important functions not only in corporations, but also in the private, public sector, ministries, but also in many important foundations or associations - explains Prof. Małgorzata Dobrowolska, director of the Business School of the Silesian University of Technology.

The new year students started learning on the same profile of studies as this year’s graduates, i.e. “Energy and Digital Transformation,” which responds to the needs of a modern economy, in which the processes of decarbonization, digitization and automation take place in parallel.

- We have a unique group of people who very often have a well-established position in business and yet have come to the conclusion that they can learn something at our University and systematize their management knowledge - said the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk. First of all, these studies are very well conducted. They are not limited to online classes. I think the people who finish them will definitely confirm this. Students spend whole weekends, thanks to which they create a great community and get to know the presidents of large companies or ministers. This very well conveys the idea of the Silesian University of Technology that “Here business meets science.”

The global Veolia corporation has been a strategic business partner for years.

- Veolia Polska Group is a leader in energy transformation. In order to achieve this, it is very important to have a staff at the highest level. MBA studies at the Silesian University of Technology give us this opportunity. They are very valuable and of high quality, thanks to excellent lecturers, practitioners, and experts from the highest level – not only state-owned companies, but also foreign companies – says Commercial Director and Vice President of the Veolia Group in Poland, Dr Hab. Eng. Krzysztof Zamasz, Prof. AWSB.

The MBA day brought together not only graduates and students, but also representatives of the world of science, business, and public administration. The event was accompanied for the second time by the conference “Energy. Science. Industry.”  The ceremonial opening was attended by, among others, Rector Marek Pawełczyk, Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy in the European Parliament and an employee of the Department of Energy Transformation at the University of Economics, Dr Borys Budka, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Science Prof. Marek Gzik, President of the Regional Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Gliwice Wiktor Pawlik, Vice-Rector for General Affairs  Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Bożena Skołud and Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok.

The participants had the opportunity to listen to the papers and the discussion panel “Science for Industry and Business.”

- As part of the MBA studies at the Silesian University of Technology, we have the opportunity to meet with exceptional students. These are often people who have great experience in business. These are the presidents and board members of large corporations. They are connected above all by the fact that they are well versed in business, and at the same time they want to further educate and improve their qualifications. Conducting classes is a challenge for us, lecturers, because here there are no easy questions or theoretical lectures. Here we have a meeting with business problems and an attempt to solve them together. That is why I can wholeheartedly recommend these studies - the quality of education, but also the opportunity to establish interpersonal contacts, this is something that is unique on a Polish scale - said Dr Borys Budka.

From the very beginning, the Business School of the Silesian University of Technology aimed at education for the needs of the current labour market and enterprises. Depending on the direction in which the economy was developing, in response to these processes further profiles were, opened at MBA studies. Graduates have already been educated, among others, in study profiles: "Industry 4.0" and "Hydrogen and Energy Transformation".

- These studies are a great combination of experience with theoretical and practical knowledge, passed on by outstanding scientists and practitioners. I am a graduate of MBA studies at the Silesian University of Technology. After several years of leadership positions, they organized all my knowledge. I think that they were also a very valuable experience for me, which I use today - emphasized Prof. Marek Gzik. - I would like it to be the case in our country that people holding positions allowing to manage a larger group of employees took up such a challenge and had completed such managerial studies. This is extremely valuable.

The MBA Day was an excellent opportunity not only to inaugurate a new edition of studies, but also to distribute diplomas to this year's graduates. Everyone agreed how good the decision was.

- It was a huge adventure for me - returning to the student bench, and above all a huge dose of knowledge, which I did not expect to get. It’s a lot of time spent, but also fantastic contacts that you can’t get anywhere else. I got to know new solutions and learned a lot from professionals and practitioners in the field of energy transformation – recalls this year’s MBA graduate Ewa Fudali-Bondel, deputy mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza.

- These studies teach cooperation in a group with very smart people, from whom you can learn a lot and who want to share knowledge and experience. I already use this knowledge and contacts gained during my studies in everyday life, being an engineer, manager and running a business – praised Dr Eng. Olaf Kopczyński from GE Vernova.

We wish all graduates a lot of success. In the case of people who have just started their studies, we keep our fingers crossed for fruitful learning. We also encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with the offer of the Business School of the Silesian University of Technology (https://mcbi.pl/)

- We are distinguished by exceptional staff, fantastic atmosphere, but also our great business partner, VEOLIA. In addition, we take great care that here in Silesia, in the most industrial region of Poland, we can build networking in the area of transformation. Most of our graduates, but also students, emphasize that the MBA quickly affects their development and career advancement - emphasizes Prof. Małgorzata Dobrowolska.
