MARS project at the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School in Rybnik

Teachers from the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik took part in the MARS project (Mobility as an asset in the development of the school). The program was implemented in 2020-2022 as part of the Erasmus+ program.

The aim of the project was raising the level of teachers' qualifications in the use of modern technologies, introducing activating teaching methods and creative techniques in classes, improving teachers' language skills and establishing cooperation with teachers and schools abroad.

The methodological courses were attended by teachers of English, French and Spanish, mathematics and architectural drawing, as well as a school counsellor.

– In a short time, we could observe the effects of the staff's participation in internships in Spain, Malta, Italy, Portugal and Croatia. Observation of good practices and contact with foreigners allowed me to get to know and understand other cultures and transfer my experiences to our school. Teachers implemented modern methods of working with the use of applications, got to know interesting websites to be used in lessons and got acquainted with other educational systems. Thanks to meeting teachers from other countries, we gained potential partners for the implementation of new European projects. Classes with young people certainly have a greater interdisciplinary and intercultural dimension, they are more attractive, and the experience gained allows for introducing changes at school - he said Krzysztof Lazaj, director of the Academic Secondary Comprehensive School of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik.

The summary of the project took place on November 28th, 2022, as part of a seminar organized in cooperation with the Regional Centre for Teacher Training and Pedagogical Information "WOM" in Rybnik.

During the meeting, director Lazaj presented the MARS project and its goals, summarizing the most important activities. Renata Klimek-Kowalska, the MARS project coordinator, acting as the deputy director of ALO (Academic Secondary Comprehensive School), shared her experience and answered the questions of the seminar participants. Sylwia Bloch, director of the Regional Teacher Training and Pedagogical Information Centre "WOM" in Rybnik, presented the possibilities of teachers' professional development and cooperation in the field of educational projects in the city and in the region. Mirela Szymczak, teacher-consultant of RODN and IP "WOM" in Rybnik, shared her experience resulting from the implementation of many Erasmus+ projects.

ALO teachers in Rybnik participating in the MARS project talked about their internships, presented didactic materials that can be used in professional work by seminar participants and other teachers of ALO and other schools in the region.
