Marcelina Jureczko, PhD, Eng., adjunct at the Biotechnology Centre of the Silesian University of Technology won this year’s Polish Edition of the Falling Walls Lab competition, held on 13 September during the Lower Silesian Science Festival (LSSF) in Wroclaw. The Silesian University of Technology is a partner of the event.
Falling Walls Lab is an international competition in which young scientist, innovators and visionaries from around the world present their ideas for breaking down barriers standing in the way of better future. Presentations are delivered in a three-minute format.
The title of Marcelina Jureczko’s winning presentation was “Breaking the Wall Of Cure and Contamination”. On 6 November, the laureate will represent Poland in international finals in Berlin.
“My presentation focused on fungi that break down the barriers standing in the way of a cleaner environment, specifically on the removal of anticancer drugs from water using white rot fungi,” explained the laureate.
