Malaysian scientists visit the Silesian University of Technology

On October 12, 2023, a delegation from the Malaysian University of Technology in Malaka (Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, UTeM) visited the Silesian University of Technology. The meeting concerned current and future cooperation between both universities.

The visit was the result of activities undertaken in Malaysia by the Silesian University of Technology, as part of the international Erasmus E+ Project "Geomatics for Disaster Risk Reduction".

The Malaysian delegation from UTeM included:

1.    Professor Datuk Ts. Dr Massila Binti Kamalrudin, Vice Chancellor

2.    Professor Ts. Dr Noreffendy Bin Tamaldin, Director, Centre of Research & Innovation Management (CRIM)

3.    Assoc. Prof Dr Siti Hajar binti Sheikh Md. Fadzullah, Director, UTeM International Centre (UIC)

4.    Assoc. Prof Dr Mohd Riduan bin Ahmad, Faculty of Electronics & Computer Technology and Engineering (FTKEK)

5.    Mr. Khairul Nizam bin Suhaimin, Lecturer, Faculty of Mechanical Technology and Engineering (FTKM). 

During their visit to the Silesian University of Technology, guests from Malaysia met with the university authorities. During the meeting, the potential of each university was presented, and possible areas of cooperation were discussed. The Silesian University of Technology was represented by:

  1. Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, Vice-Rector for Science and Development.
  2. Dr Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek, Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation, Department of Geoengineering and Resource Exploitation (main coordinator of the GeoDRR Project, Co-coordinator of POB6.1)
  3. Dr hab. Eng. Anna Bluszcz, prof. SUT – Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation – Faculty of Safety Engineering
  4. Dr hab. Eng. Katarzyna Tobór-Osadnik, prof. SUT – Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation – Faculty of Safety Engineering
  5. Dr Eng. Grzegorz Kłapyta, Head of the International Relations Office
  6. Dr Eng. Marcin Gorski, prof. SUT, director of the Project Management Centre.
  7. Dr Eng. Krzysztof Tokarz, Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Department of Computer Graphics, Vision and Digital Systems

The talks of the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka delegation with Vice-Rector Marek Pawełczyk were preceded by a working meeting at the Department of Geoengineering and Resource Exploitation (KGiES) at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation. The main topics of the talks were elements of ongoing or completed work under the GeoDRR project and two PBL projects with two other universities in Malaysia. The meeting was led by the coordinator of all three projects - Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Tomiczek, who presented to the Malaysian side both the organizational and technical aspects of the completed and ongoing projects. All projects concern solutions to problems for Malaysian conditions and are related to natural disasters, geotechnical and geomechanical issues and seismic phenomena.

The visit of the Malaysian scientists was also an opportunity to get to know the campus, laboratories and history of the Silesian University of Technology.
