Launch conference of the DEsire project

On 12 May 2022, the DEsire Project will be officially launched at the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. The conference will aim to familiarise the socio-economic environment with the assumptions of the project.

On 1 April 2022, a consortium of five entities launched activities under the DEsire project: "Plan for decarbonisation of the national commercial power industry through modernisation with the use of nuclear reactors." The consortium consists of: Silesian University of Technology, Ministry of Climate and Environment, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management Company "Energoprojekt-Katowice" SA,  Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology and the Sobieski Institute. The project, for which the Consortium received funding under the 6th "Gospostrateg" competition, is aimed at developing the "Decarbonisation Plan". The Ministry of Climate and Environment is responsible for its implementation.

The Silesian University of Technology, the leader of the project, is responsible for the pilot study of the Industrial Energy Transformation Cluster, which is to provide research and advisory facilities to support national stakeholders in decarbonisation processes.

The official opening ceremony of DEsire project will take place at the conference, which will be held on 12 May 2022 at the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. The conference is organised in a blended form and will consist of three substantive parts. The first session will be devoted to familiarising project beneficiaries with the research challenges which have been presented to teams representing individual members of the Consortium.

The second session will be an open session. During this time, members, who are actively involved in research and development of investment activities in the nuclear power sector will share their experience. The conference will close with a discussion panel, which will be attended by the representatives of consortium members strongly interested in decarbonisation measures in line with the Coal-to-Nuclear path.
