Kacper Szczurowski - Polish judo champion

A competitor of the KŚ AZS Silesian University of Technology, won the Polish Judo Championship in the category of +100 kg during the 68th Polish Senior Championships in Judo, which took place in Warsaw.

Kacper Szczurowski was born in Gliwice. It was here, at the age of six, that he enrolled in the AZS Gliwice Environmental Club of the Silesian University of Technology and began training in the judo section. Last year he achieved his life success and won a bronze medal in judo at 31st Universiade in Chengdu, China. This time he had no equal in the national competition, winning in three fights. The talented athlete rewarded himself last year’s edition of the Polish Championships, in which he did not compete due to illness.

Kacper was a favourite in his category, although he had two dangerous competitors. He played well tactically the final with Patryk Broniec, eliminating key enemy techniques and won the fight ahead of time. The gold medal of the Polish championship is always a huge success and an important matter for him and our club – says Bronisław Wołkowicz, coach of the gold medallist.

For Kacper, this is the third gold medal in a row in the national championship event among seniors. Two and three years ago, however, he won it in the category of up to 100 kilograms. Now, for the first time, he reached for the most valuable disc in the category of over 100 kilograms.

“I felt a little pressure and a little stress because I knew that my gold medal was counted on,” the judo champion said. “I was very focused, focused and this translated into the final success. It is important to me that I was able to stand on the top of the podium”.

Emilia Wołkowicz also presented well at the same event – starting in the category up to 63 kg she took fifth place.

- “It is a good place, which we are happy with, although at some point there was a chance for a medal, but there was not enough experience” - says coach Wołkowicz.” Congratulations to our entire team. The performance was successful, but we still see opportunities for improvement. The potential and commitment of the players make us optimistic for the future.”
