Jubilee Conference of the Department of Applied Social Sciences of the Silesian University of Technology

International Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference “Social Development in Relation to Values Ethics – Technology – Society”, organized by the Department of Applied Social Sciences of the Faculty of Organisation and Management under the patronage of the Minister of Science and Higher Education and the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Professor Marek Pawełczyk, gathered a large group of scientists from many Polish and foreign universities as well as representatives of the world of business and public administration.

The official opening of the event was attended by the Vice-Rector for General Affairs of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Bożena Skołud. The conference has been organized for 11 years now by the Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior, Head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences. 

- The conference time is special for us. The Department of Applied Social Sciences celebrates the 30th anniversary of its foundation. It has been working continuously since the establishment of the Faculty – stated Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior.

The inaugural panel debate was attended by: Vice-Rector Bożena Skołud, Adam Ciekański, President of the Green Energy Centre in Rybnik, Michał Gawroński, President of the Silesian Federation of Polish Entrepreneurs, Dr Jacek Siatkowski, Director of the Katowice Business Centre Club Lodge. The moderator was Prof. Aleksandra Kuzior.

The discussion concerned various aspects of sustainable development both in theoretical terms and in the practice of economic life. Good practices were presented, concrete actions were mentioned, effects were pointed out, and at the same time the most serious difficulties in achieving the objectives were identified. The audience also joined the debate, asking questions. In the statements of all panellists, regardless of the issue raised, emphasis was placed on the importance of education for sustainable development. 

The conference was organised in hybrid mode. A total of 105 people took part in it, including 48 participants from abroad - from Germany, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Italy.
