IX Final of the Days of Gliwice Young Scientists
For the ninth time, the Final of the Days of Gliwice Young Scientists took place at the Silesian University of Technology. The ceremony was attended by the Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Promotion, dr hab. Eng. Tomasz Trawiński, prof. SUT, Vice-President of Gliwice Ewa Weber and young people taking part in the competition.
Days of Gliwice Young Scientists is a project that aims to popularize exact sciences, help in choosing an educational and professional path and develop cooperation between schools in Gliwice and the Silesian University of Technology. The competition is aimed at primary school pupils and pre-schoolers. The final took place on February 24th , 2023, at the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. More than 500 primary school pupils from Gliwice attended the ceremony.
– I am very happy that you are once again within the walls of the Silesian University of Technology, a very hospitable, open and friendly place where you can gain knowledge not only during lectures, laboratories or exercises, but also take part in many interesting projects, e.g. student science clubs. I am very proud of you that you took up this challenge and took part in this competition. It gives you a chance to build your competences and skills, as well as to make a decision, perhaps already at this moment, who you would like to be in the future and what profession to pursue - said the Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Promotion, dr hab. Eng. Tomasz Trawiński, prof. of Silesian University of Technology

The competition of pupils in the competition was two-stage - it was the Academy of the Youngest Scientist and the League of Primary Schools, under which four competitions were held: a mathematical, biological and geographical, chemical and physical competition and a research competition.
– The Gliwice Young Scientists Days are an opportunity for pupils to get to know the University already at the primary school level. Such a combination of school education and university education is extremely important because it opens up new horizons and shows new directions. As the city of Gliwice, we hope that we will have more and more students and that our young people will stay and study in the city - said Ewa Weber, Vice-President of Gliwice.
The competition is getting more and more popular every year. - We want to popularize exact sciences among primary school pupils, so that in the future they will continue their education at polytechnic faculties - said Aneta Paździor, director of the 4th Secondary Comprehensive School in Gliwice, which was a co-organizer of the event.
Nearly 180 primary school pupils and over a hundred pre-schoolers took part in the competition. Participants solved tasks in the field of exact sciences, tests, puzzles and crosswords. They also created their research papers. 34 pupils made it to the finals. Among them, Zuzia from Primary School No. 41 in Gliwice. – We were carrying out a research project, it was a lot of fun but also competition. You had to have an idea, know what to do and how to do it, said Zuzia. She entered the competition because she is interested in science. “They help us understand how the world works. In the future, I would like to study at the Silesian University of Technology, perhaps at the Faculty of Architecture, added Zuzia.
During today's final of the Days of Gliwice Young Scientists, pupils could learn about the educational offer of the Silesian University of Technology and take part in a popular science lecture.
