Invitation to the Global Capstone Design 2025 event

For the second time, the Silesian University of Technology has the honour to host Global Capstone Design 2025 workshops, which are attended by 10 international Project Based Learning teams, which include students and academic teachers from 5 universities from South Korea, Technical University of Košice (Slovakia), Opole University of Technology and our University. The subject matter of the works carried out is related to the vision of future solutions in the area of mobility.

We would like to invite students, PhD students and employees to the opening ceremony of the workshop, which will take place on the 26th of May 2025 at 9.00 in Hall 300 at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation and to the end of the event, which will take place on the 29th of May 2025 in Hall 300, according to the following schedule:
- 11.00-13.30 – final presentations of completed projects by student groups,
- 15.30 – awarding of prizes and closing of workshops.

Global Capstone Design is an international project that connects students from different universities around the world, enabling them to collaborate on real-world engineering issues. This project is organized by various universities, including leading institutions from Asia, Europe, and North America. Its aim is to create innovative technological solutions in response to social, environmental, and industrial challenges. The main objectives of the project are focused on the development of international cooperation, solving real problems and preparing students for future professional work. The project participants are primarily students from different countries, working in international teams, which also promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience between cultures.

This event is held in the form of Project Based Learning and lasts several months. During the course of the project, students go through various stages, including:

- preparation and research - teams get to know the problem, carry out analyses, market research, and formulate project goals,
- design and prototyping: students develop solutions, create prototypes, and then test them in laboratory conditions or in simulations.
- presentation of results - at the end of the project teams present their solutions to expert panels and potential investors, which gives them a chance to use their ideas in practice.

Participation in the Global Capstone Design project enables students to connect with peers and experts from all over the world. The project develops interpersonal competences such as teamwork, conflict resolution and communication in an international environment. By implementing the project, students have access to modern engineering and technological tools, which allows them to create innovative solutions.

Global Capstone Design is not only an event, but also an opportunity for personal and professional development in an international context. The project combines education with practice, preparing young engineers for the challenges of the modern labour market, as well as putting them at the centre of global technological innovation.

This year’s edition is also an invitation for all Faculties to get acquainted with the specifics of the event and join the next editions. The highlight is the presentation of the results, i.e. the results of several months of work of ten international teams and the competition of final works.
