InterTech DOC'26 

On the 8th -10th of June in Szczyrk, there took place the 11th edition of the InterTech DOC’26 Conference. This year’s event attracted great interest among young researchers, PhD students, and students. More than 110 people attended the conference. 

The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation Prof. Dr. Hab.Eng. Sebastian Werle, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok, Director of the Doctoral School, Dr Hab. Eng. Andrzej Katunin, Prof. SUT, Grzegorz Jóżwiak, Executive Director for Biofuels and Hydrogen in ORLEN, MSc Eng. Iga Przytuła,  the President of the University Council of Self-Government of Doctoral Students,  and Eng. Błażej Brudny, the  President of the Student Self-Government. 

The participants presented the results of their research during presentation sessions and poster sessions. A total of 36 posters and 41 presentations were presented. The conference was an opportunity to exchange experiences, talk about ongoing scientific projects and establish new contacts in the academic environment. 

The main sponsor of this year’s edition of the Conference was ORLEN.Representatives of the company also took part in discussion panels devoted to cooperation between science and business and the development of innovative projects. 

As part of the InterTechDoc’26 conference, there were also two discussion panels devoted to the cooperation of science with the economic environment and the development of startups.

The panel “Cooperation of PhD students with Industry,” which took place on the 8th  of June, was attended by: 

  • Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education at the Silesian University of Technology, 
  • Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Sebastian Werle, Vice-Rector for Science and international Cooperation at the Silesian University of Technology, 
  • Dr Hab. Eng. Andrzej Katunin, Prof. SUT, director of the Doctoral School of the Silesian University of Technology, 
  • Grzegorz Jóźwiak, Executive Director for Biofuels and Hydrogen at ORLEN S.A., 
  • Luk Palmen, Innovation & Cooperation Manager at Silesia Automotive & Advanced Manufacturing 
  • Marek Wybraniec, Research & Development Manager at Valeo Electric & Electronic Systems. 

The panel was moderated by Dr Eng. Anna Wolny. 

The second panel entitled “Development of start-ups” on the 9th  of June was attended by: 

  • Bartłomiej Mazurkiewicz, Investment Manager at ORLEN VC, 
  • Dr Hab. Eng. Konrad Tudyka, Prof. SUT, CEO of miDose Solutions, 
  • Kamil Ziółkowski, co-founder of the start-up SuperCluster, 
  • Monika Bezak, Labour Market Expert at Silesia Automotive & Advanced Manufacturing, 
  • Dr Hab. Eng. Sławomir Boncel, CEO of NanoCarbonGroup spin-off. 

The discussion was moderated by Dr Eng. Sara Sarraj. 

The event was also attended by Tomasz Olecki, Head of the Optimization and Modelling Team of Fuel Synthesis processes at ORLEN, present during the conference on 8-10 June. 

The participation of ORLEN representatives was an important element of the conference. It allowed participants to look at scientific research from the perspective of industry, implementations, and practical opportunities for cooperation with business. 

At the end of the conference, the authors of the best speeches were awarded. The awards were received by: 

  1. Bartosz Zowiślok, University of Silesia – “complexes without complexes: Thiophene Effects on the Photophysics and Electrochemistry of Iridium (III) Compounds” 
  2. Rita Theresa El Kahi, Université de Lorraine- “Integrating Meta-Analysis and Causal Modelling to Elucidate Structure-Activity Relationships of Curcumin-Loaded Lipid Nanocarriers for BBB Delivery in Alzheimer’s Disease.” 
  3. Mohammed Elmeligy, Silesian University of Technology – “Recent Challenges in Hot-Dip Galvanizing of Lightweight Steels for the Automotive Industry” 
  4. Igor Biały, Silesian University of Technology – “Enzymatic Transesterification as a Sustainable Pathway to   Functional 2.5-Furandicarboxylic Acid Derivatives” 
  5. Phillis Mutheu Mbinda, Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg- “Comparison of Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms for Deep Learning-Based Residential Heating Load Forecasting” 

We hope that the next editions of the event will also enjoy such great interest and will continue to be a place of inspiring meetings, talks, and cooperation of young researchers with representatives of science and industry. 

The main organizer of the event was the University Self-Government Council of the Doctoral Students of the Silesian University of Technology in cooperation with the Doctoral School. The honorary patronage over the conference was taken by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk. The partner of the event was the Student Self-Government of the Silesian University of Technology.
