International Staff Training Week is underway
From June 12th, the International Staff Training Week conference is held at the Silesian University of Technology. The event is organized by the International Relations Office and the Foreign Languages Centre and is attended by about 50 guests from all over the world.
From Monday, June 12th, representatives of universities from around the world take part in lectures, workshops and integration meetings during the International Staff Training Week at the Silesian University of Technology. This is the fourth edition of this event.
- After each subsequent edition, we receive feedback from our participants with suggestions for further topics to be discussed during the next such meetings. This year we are discussing high-quality education understood as the goal of sustainable development. During the debates, we focus on the issue of how learning based on international and national projects will enable our students to acquire the knowledge and competences that are necessary to function in the 21st century, to navigate in this extremely complicated reality - said Dr Małgorzata Rachwalska- Mitas, director of the Foreign Languages Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.
The discussion is attended by representatives of the scientific community from various parts of the world. They are administrative and scientific workers from Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as distant Mozambique, Libya and Jordan. Lectures, in turn, are presented by representatives of Finland, Sweden, Great Britain, Australia and Japan. This allows for a clash of different points of view on the aspect of education of the future.
- Among the participants there are both employees of foreign cooperation departments, but also researchers who are interested in telecollaboration, i.e., international cooperation at a distance. We want to share our knowledge on how to conduct such cooperation efficiently in different parts of the world - added Grzegorz Kłapyta, director of the International Relations Office of the Silesian University of Technology.
The result is to be the possibility of implementing joint projects in the future, e.g., in the field of climate, to which part of the discussion was devoted.
- Each country has different experiences in this regard. It is good to learn from examples of how others deal with this problem. We all see how the climate changes, how the seasons change. As scientists, we cannot be indifferent to this - noted Dr hab. Eng. Tomasz Trawinski, prof. SUT Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Promotion. – Climate protection is just one reason to establish international contacts. Events such as the International Staff Training Week or activities under EURECA PRO serve to improve the quality of our teaching and the effects of scientific activity - added Vice-Rector Trawiński.
The meeting is a great opportunity to make new contacts. In addition to substantive events, there is also time for integration. The participants took part in a trip to the Palace in Koszęcin. They spent time together during the meeting in Mrowisko, and the plan is also to integrate at the barbecue.
The event will last until June 16th.
