International Carnival Meeting at the Silesian University of Technology - Polish carnival traditions!
On January 28, 2025, a special event organized by the Welcome Point in cooperation with the Foreign Languages Centre of the Silesian University of Technology took place at the Employee Club. The meeting brought together foreigners from various parts of the world, giving them an opportunity to learn about Polish carnival traditions and spend time in an international setting.
One of the highlights of the program was the performance by the Academic Dance Ensemble of the Silesian University of Technology, "DĄBROWIACY." The artists presented traditional dances, regional costumes, and music, captivating the audience and inviting them to join in the dance. This unforgettable experience allowed foreigners to immerse themselves in Polish folklore and personally feel the joy of traditional dance.
During the event, guests learned about customs associated with Fat Thursday and "Śledzik" – the last day of the carnival season. Participants discovered how Poles celebrate carnival, what dishes are most popular during this time, and what traditions accompany these special days.
There was also a tasting of traditional Polish delicacies. The tables featured doughnuts and faworki, which were met with great enthusiasm. Attendees could also enjoy coffee, tea, and other beverages, fostering relaxed conversations and the integration of the international academic community.
The youngest participant was not even a 1 year old!
The event organized by the Welcome Point was an excellent opportunity for cultural exchange, communal celebration, and a deeper understanding of Polish traditions. Thanks to this gathering, foreigners felt like part of the academic community of the Silesian University of Technology and will fondly remember this unique carnival evening.
