Interesting workshops at the Faculty of Civil Engineering
Extremely interesting workshops were prepared by scientists from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology for pupils of grades 6-8 from the Music School Complex named after Feliks Rybicki in Tychy.
The event took place as part of the European City of Science Katowice 2024 celebrations. Pupils were divided into three groups. Each of them took part in three different workshops: “Concrete cup coasters – workshops on concrete preparation and forming”, “Minecraft from cellular concrete – workshops in masonry and testing the properties of cellular concrete” and “Why is concrete one of the most powerful materials in construction? - workshops on testing the strength characteristics of concrete and other materials".
- Pupils had the opportunity to see how concrete is mixed, moulded and levelled, how bricks are cut and joined, as well as learn about the different materials, their strength and destroy them. We are glad that the children were very interested and actively participated in the workshops and tried to perform the tasks themselves – says Dr Eng. Jan Pizoń.
The workshop was conducted by Dr Eng. Jan Pizoń, Dr Eng. Anita Pawlak-Jakubowska, Dr Eng. Wojciech Mazur, Dr Eng. Mirosław Wieczorek and Dr Hab. Eng. Barbara Wieczorek. The pupils listened to a short lecture and then played the role of professionals. It was clear that it was a great pleasure for them.
