“How deep is space?" - a multimedia show for primary school pupils

Nearly five hundred primary school pupils took part in a multimedia show entitled: “How deep is space?”. The event took place at the Mrowisko Student Culture Centre, as part of the "Science with culture" project.

Is the universe finite, how long does it take to fly to the nearest star and can music explore space? Primary school pupils learned the answers to these questions and more during a multimedia journey into space that they have been invited to by CKS Mrowisko.

– It was a multimedia lecture that combined two things: music, which is always such a soothing element, with scientific knowledge. These two elements make it scientific on the one hand and cultural on the other - said dr Eng. Bogusław Ziębowicz, one of the initiators of the “Science with Culture” project.

The show was prepared together with the Astrolab Space Education Centre.

– During our shows, we try to tell stories and take our viewers on a cosmic journey, deep into the universe. The main topic of this meeting was the question: how deep is space? There is no clear answer to this question, but we tried to show young people how vast the space we live in is - said Michał Witek from the Astrolab Space Education Centre in Czernica, science populariser.

The show began with a view of our planet from the international space station, i.e. from over 400 kilometres away. Then the youth "went" to the Moon, learned what the Sun is, what it is made of and how it works. Finally, the Voyager space probe took participants to the furthest reaches of the solar system.

– You can talk about space in an interesting and fascinating way. We show young people something that is real, something that is constantly above their heads. We want young people to think for a moment and perhaps become interested in space, and not only what they see on smartphone or computer screens, adds Michał Witek.

The pupils really liked the show. – This show was very atmospheric. We learned a lot of new and interesting information about space, said Zosia from Primary School No. 28 in Gliwice. – There was a lot of knowledge that cannot be found in books, but all of it was interestingly shown in films and photos, as well as interesting music – adds her friend Michalina.

The event took place as part of the "Science with Culture" project, organized by the Mrowisko Student Culture Centre.
