Hearing Day at the Silesian University of Technology – an invitation to webinars
Hearing is the sense that allows us to receive sound waves. It is the foundation for the production of speech and, consequently, it is essential for communication. That is why it is worthwhile to take a closer look at the methods of testing the hearing, auditory skills and the impact of distance learning on auditory function. Join us for a three-part webinar on Hearing Day on 3 March at 09:00 am.
How is it that we can hear? Sound waves reach us through the organ of hearing, which is the ear. Our ears can hear - better or worse - sometimes some difficulties can make us hear sounds differently for a while. On a daily basis, we don't think about the value of binaural hearing, correct perception of sounds in a physiological way, or auditory hygiene (i.e. making sure that the sounds we hear are mostly natural, adjusted in volume, and that there is a rest period for our hearing in between).
What if the absence - temporary or permanent - of any of these factors causes problems not even with hearing, but also with listening, which is the active use of the information that comes through the auditory pathway? To what extent the development of hearing and the adversity that may occur, such as rhinitis, ear infections, tonsillar hypertrophy, asthma and allergies, may affect children’s and young people's schooling? Can learning difficulties be related with hearing difficulties, even if they occurred in early childhood? When is it then that children's hearing should be tested? How does hearing affect learning? Has distance learning affected the auditory functions of children and young people?
These and many other questions will be answered by: Michał Kręcichwost PhD, Eng. (Department of Medical Informatics and Artificial Intelligence, Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology), Natalia Moćko, PhD (Faculty of Humanities at the University of Silesia and Psychological and Pedagogical Counselling Centre in Mysłowice), Mrs Agnieszka Pucka from NZOZ All-Medicus in Katowice.
We invite teachers and parents, as well as everyone interested in the topic of the hearing, to participate in webinars, which will be held on 3 March via the Zoom platform:
