Guests from the Hasselt University at the Silesian University of Technology
The university authorities, representatives of the academic staff and administration from the Belgian university visited Gliwice. The Hasselt University is one of the partners of the Silesian University of Technology in the EURECA PRO consortium. The visit was aimed at strengthening relations and establishing cooperation also in the scientific field.
The Hasselt University in Belgium educates students in both the exact sciences, social sciences and humanities. At the request of the Silesian University of Technology, this university joined the consortium creating the European University EURECA PRO, which today consists of nine partners.
– The partnership with the Hasselt University has contributed a lot to our consortium, it is a university located in the heart of Belgium, near Brussels, and knows the legal system very well. I think that in the future it will be very effective in supporting all partner universities in acquiring international projects, which we can already see in the example of the joint project that the Silesian University of Technology is implementing with this Belgian university - said Prof. Marek Pawełczyk – Vice-Rector for Science and Development of the Silesian University of Technology, Rector Elect.

The joint research project concerns modern energy technologies, and its leader on behalf of the Silesian University of Technology is prof. Janusz Kotowicz- Vice-Rector for Collaboration with the Civic and Economic Environment.
One of the goals of the visit of the delegation from Hasselt is to establish similar partnerships in the scientific field.
– This is a very interesting university that is focused on the development of scientific research, which means it is heading towards a research university, just like us – said Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology. – We also want to exchange experiences in the functioning and management of the university.
– We have already managed to carry out several similar visits, we see that they are very fruitful, they bring the professors and administrative staff closer together, which is very good for cooperation – said Prof. Dr Bernard Vanheusden, Rector of the Hasselt University. – Participation in the EURECA PRO consortium is very important to us. We joined technical universities, we, in turn, also provide education in the field of social sciences and humanities, we condact interdisciplinary studies, which is why we see many benefits from cooperation with universities such as the Silesian University of Technology.
During their two-day stay, the guests from Belgium got to know the campus of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice and Zabrze, as well as selected laboratories, and offices dealing with, among others, legislation, student services and promotion. They also visited the library and the polytechnic hangars at the Gliwice airport, and those interested had a chance to look at the city from above.
