“Gryfno Rajza,” an adaptation camp of the Silesian University of Technology
Competitions, team contests, lots of fun and laughter and above all integration - the annual “Adapciak,” a camp for first-year students organized by the Student Self-Government, has begun. “Gryfno Rajza, however in Gaul,” as every year set in a different universe, this time refers to the world known from the series of comics and films about Asterix and Obelix.
“Adapciak” is an opportunity for first-year students to get to know each other before the academic year has been inaugurated. The organizers also made sure to familiarize them with the campus and faculties of the Silesian University of Technology, student organizations, and above all, so that they could ask any questions bothering them to students from higher years.
– We are aware that people starting their studies have experienced many difficulties related to the lack of full-time education in secondary school related to the COVID-19 pandemic and are certainly facing its consequences – emphasized Dawid Mordarski, President of the Student Government of the Silesian University of Technology, a student of the Faculty of Organization and Management. “We want the “Adapciak” to help the participants break down barriers, to make new acquaintances, which can turn into long-term friendships.
This is what the camp participants hope for, like Amelia Szczęch, who will become a student of business analytics from October.
“I thought it would be good to meet people before I start studying, because the awareness that the university is so big is a little scary, it will be easier for me to get used to it earlier,” said the future student.
– I am also looking for friends and I really hope that I will be able to find a roommate for the dormitory, because I am accommodated alone – added Jakub Pilarski, who will start studies in the field of logistics.

“Adapciak” responds to the needs of future students.
– We have prepared a rich program that will certainly help the camp participants get to know their peers on the threshold of this amazing adventure, which is studying – adds Błażej Brudny, Vice-President of the Student Government of the Silesian University of Technology, a student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. – And we, a little more experienced in the academic world, will always give them advice, so that first-year students will get to know the University from our perspective, understand how it works, what structure it has – it will certainly embolden them – he adds.
The camp was officially opened by the authorities of the Silesian University of Technology.
– This event has a rich tradition at our University, I thank the Student Government that it is preparing an adaptation programme for future students to learn about the university and the secrets of student life. Especially this year, they put a lot of effort into it, because the flood affected the region where they were to go – said Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology.

“Adapciak” for several years took place in a resort in Głuchołazy. However, the catastrophic flood that in mid-September hit southern Poland forced the organizers to change the place to the centre in Międzybrodzie Żywieckie. Głuchołazy is one of the towns that suffered the most during the event – water broke bridges, destroyed buildings and infrastructure. The Student
Government together with the Volunteer Centre at the Silesian University of Technology organized a collection of gifts for flood victims.
“The losses are devastating, some people have lost everything, so we encourage you to help. We collect the most necessary things such as bottled water, food with a long shelf life, cleaning and personal hygiene products, power banks – enumerates the chairman. – The Student Government is also there to unite the academic community in the face of crisis or, for example, to initiate charity actions.
Before the camp, its participants went to the centre in Międzybrodzie Żywieckie, they visited the campus, spent the evening in the Spiral Student Club and the first night in the dormitory.
