A Week of Contrast in the City of Science
The 27th of 50 weeks in the City of Science is a Week of Contrast The event takes place as part of the European City of Science celebrations.
According to the PWN Dictionary of the Polish Language, contrast is, on the one hand, "a sharp contradiction between juxtaposed objects, phenomena, etc." and "the difference in brightness between the light and dark parts of the image" on the other hand, and the shading agent that makes objects visible in the X-ray image. This phenomenon, understood both in terms of sharp contradiction and subtle differences in shades, can be observed in art and science on many levels.
The Week of Contrast program will include theoretical, scientific and educational lectures, combined with artistic events and workshops. Starting from workshops and piano recitals, performed on black and white keyboards, through percussion concerts, filled with classical, jazz and the newest sounds, full of surprising combinations, to a vocal recital presenting the works of Julian Tuwim set to music by various composers. The music creator's sensitivity will become a kind of contrast, emphasizing sometimes one or another content of the poems.
The week's program will finally include a medical aspect. Participants will be able to learn about contrast and imaging methods (X-ray, tomography, resonance) used in modern medicine and scientific research.
