Grants, funding and scholarships in pro-quality programmes - 2023 summary
In 2023, more than 30 pro-quality programmes have been implemented for employees, doctoral students, undergraduates and postgraduates.
Pro-quality programmes are the main instrument for implementing the development strategy of Silesian University of Technology and the action plan under the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme. They are aimed at motivating and supporting employees, postgraduate students and undergraduate students in the development of their scientific careers, increasing internationalisation and improving the quality of education based on research and innovation, as well as dual degree programmes.
In 2023, the Rector awarded a total of more than 3,300 quality grants, subsidies and scholarships to more than 2,500 staff, doctoral candidates and students, and decided to recruit 22 people within the framework of the competition for outstanding young researchers and outstanding experienced researchers within the IDUB programme; to increase the subsidies for all basic units; and to fund 335 PBL projects, in which more than 1,400 students and 396 supervisors participated, and 139 student research association projects, which were carried out by 354 students and 66 supervisors. In addition, two editions of the Programme for the Implementation of Projects with Secondary School Students were launched, with 114 projects implemented and 159 secondary school students declaring their participation.
A detailed breakdown of the beneficiaries of the various programmes is given below.
- Pro-quality funding for publications in the top 1%, top 5%, top 10% journals, Nature or Science journals and for monographs in high-scoring publications under the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme.
- Pro-quality funding for publications in collaboration with an author representing a foreign research centre, a non-university partner or another scientific discipline under the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme.
- Pro quality funding for teams carrying out Horizon 2020 or Horizon Europe projects under the Excellence Initiative - Research Universities programme.
- Funding for ground-breaking research under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme
- Support for the initiation of research activities in a new research topic under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme
- Funding of basic research carried out in collaboration with a foreign partner which will lead to an application for project funding from external sources under the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme.
- Grants for international doctoral students under the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme
- Benefits for top doctoral students under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme
- Grants for supervisors and assistant supervisors for joint doctoral studies with foreign institutions under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme
- Grants for internships of at least 3 months in leading foreign research centres as part of the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme
- Grants to increase the capacity to acquire international projects, in particular under the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme.
- Grants for the publication of a scientific or educational monograph
- Grants related to the employment of a staff member in a research position funded by external sources
- Rector's grants for high-ranking publications, granted patents, acquired research projects or scientific research work

- Linguistic correction of high-scoring publications or patent applications under Excellence Initiative – Research University programme

- Recruitment of outstanding and prominent researchers from within and outside the country in the priority research areas under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme.
- Recruitment of outstanding young researchers from the country or abroad in the topics of priority research areas, within the framework of the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme
- Scholarships for the best foreign students of the Silesian University of Technology who start full-time studies at the 1st or 2nd degree level.
- Funding for student research association projects under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme
- Funding for Project-Based Learning - PBL, under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme
- Mentoring Programme within the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme
- Benefits for the best students entering full-time first or second degree programmes under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Programme

- Grants to subsidise the costs of moving to the Silesian University of Technology for those employed in the programme for outstanding young researchers and outstanding experienced researchers under the Excellence Initiative - Research University programme.
- Increase in the subsidy to basic units for the implementation of the task of flexibilisation of teaching salaries, i.e. settlement of reduced salaries for projects and postdoctoral and professorial grants, within the framework of the IDUB programme.
